Corvette Forum?

Just wanting to know if the guy who raves about the Z06 on corvetteforum.com is a member here. Really good review of how the car really is, I can't wait to get my hands on one.

heres the post for those who are interested

Enjoyed the thread. I had owned a 1968 427 corvette that I heavily modified, and remember the thrill of shaking the ground on acceleration, smelling like exhaust from the cam overlap at idle, taking off the T-top and back window just to make sure I didn't miss hearing any exhaust rumble, downshifting to 2nd at 60 just to fishtail...and on and on.

On thing of interest in the thread was the mention of vette owners giving each other the "thumbs up greeting". I miss that in the AMG. Guess we are just a bit too mature/serious minded. I hope not, so will start doing it to all you AMG guys I see on the road.

Who knows, maybe we'll start a revival of an old tradition that was always fun...or maybe I'll get a single finger in return...O well.

word around town is the Viper will still beat the z06. the guys on a viper forum are reporting a few kills. and from what i have read about the z06 is its really hard to launch. i remember the old 02 z06 that car was impossible to get a good start (the first stick i drove so that might be why)

My friend was telling me that he thought GM was loading the magazine fleets with not totally stock cars Maybe they turned off torque management in the press cars? In a recent test of the new Viper SRT-10 Coupe, it trapped 10mph less than the new Z06. 10mph!!!! That's HUGE!

It was you The stock Goodyear F1 Supercar tires are just this side of race rubber. Incredibly sticky and they hook like a $2 ***** (for a street tire).

yea thats what people have been saying as well. Different mags have said different things as far as the Z06 compared to the Viper. Subjectively though they love the car from what i have heard. I was just riding next to a regular C6 this morning and I just love the lines on it so I can only imagine how the Z06 looks.

When all is said and done, even if it can't exactly beat a Viper or what have you, it is still one badass car. It's about time GM really stepped up and I think they have gone above and beyond with this car, as far as from their past tries you could say....

And I too think we should try to start to try the thumbs up tradition again. I miss that understood respect of car guys and how cool it makes you feel...

haters crazy
PeterB/M5killr will be going to the track with us on Nov. 4th with his Z06 so we will see how it does against modded and stock E55's (as well as many other cars, hopefully we will have a new M5 as well).

63's were 327...

I was a "mid-year" guru when I was younger. Great cars of their time just like the C6 is today. Sure, it costs more than most (save for the luxury foreign cars) but where can you get looks, power, technlogy and innovation like this for the price? Same was true back in the 60's.

Speaking of mid-years, check out this L88 Tanker on eBay:

I am a "Viper Guy" but will admit I love the new Z06. It's just a freakin' beast! My GTS is modded quite a bit, so it's not fair to compare my car with the new Z06, but stock vs. stock, the Viper will lose.

Very nice car but hard to believe that it was 1) not cut up and raced since it was ordered as a race car and 2) why hasn't it been restored sooner?

They did a perfect job on the restoration. Inspection numbers and stamps in the right locations and position (upside down in some cases) tells me these guys knew what they were doing. At $850K, it's a little outside my range. :p

850k is a little steep. I know the market for muscle cars right now is sky high but 850k for a redone L88 is a little steep. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and rightfully so, but personally I just can't see paying that much money for a car like that....

Which by the way I know a guy who has an all original L88, garage kept for years and never needed to be completely restored. Those vettes are some amazing cars.

Next time I slow down and give a AMG owner a thumbs up and they don't respond............................I will carry a picture of my *** and show it to them (real mature.....huh? :p )

Anyway..............a friend (fellow 02 z06 owner) believes a supercharged 06' ZO6 would be a 9 SECOND 1/4 car?!?!.............Could this be?

There's fully built turbo C5 Vettes in the 9's already. However, you'd definitely want to drop the compression on the C6 427 to handle boost.

Drop the compression? Then it would take a little more then just slapping a supercharger on and pulling 9 second 1/4 miles! 2 seconds off 1/4 mile is hard to digest without in depth modifications.................I see the light now.

Thanks for the info!

Your 02 Z06 owner sounds like an overenthusiastic Vette fan. NP - I've got a Vette in the garage, too (C4 Z07, not C6 Z06).

No superchargers out yet for a C6 Z06 (at least from a cursory search), but no way nines if bolting on a blower and no other changes - good luck on engine survival with its stock 11:1 CR!

The stock NA model is supposedlly a b*tch to launch efficiently. OTOH, if modded properly to run an SC and running slicks, anything is possible.

definitely given the compression ratio and the thin cylinder walls, you would definitely need more than just a slap on supercharger like your friend says. Beowoulf nails it when he says he might be overzealous but every right to him.

I will be getting a C6 Z06 this weekend if the transport is on schedule. I will post pics and all the juicy details of how it is once it is here. Ill post the pics of my car too since I have never really gotten around to doin it.

Let me set this straight................vettes are an awesome piece of American history! Not only are they part of my childhood (father is a vette freak) but, they are awesome cars that helped put America on the sport/race car market............................ESPECIALLY YOUR 06' Z06!

Nitrous loves compression, if you can get enough fuel in there. A 150 shot would push the C6 Z06 way down into the 10s on a tire.

Looks like actual numbers are starting to trickle in for the STOCK Z06's on Dragtimes.com. Looks like right now they are pulling 11.6-11.7..pretty much just like the mags did. If I had to bet the bank on it, I would say that's about what we are gonna get off her.

Fastest STOCK Vip I could find....everyone else is modding 11.7

Z06's on dragtimes 11.6

I gotta say, a Viper Z06 race could be one of the best of all time. WOW

I think they could get away with a 6 psi s/c bolt on kit with this engine. The e46 m3 has a high strung 11.5 compression engine and theres s/c for that car at 5.5 psi stock and 7.7 psi with water injection.
