Video Ipod integration with the Command?

this is a question to Steve mainly, but using the European headunit, think there is any way to wire the new video ipod into the Command? posting in the e55 section because we're the crowd that would do it.

While this is a pretty cool idea -- hey, I'm having Steve install the Euro DVD/COMAND -- the resolution is a problem. Viewing a 320x240 video on a larger screen gets a bit fuzzy. Here's a good site: iPod Video Tips

The TV tuner is a useful portal for video input. That requires a Euro head unit.

Towards the end of the year there will be a direct-connect version of the iPOD interface which allows direct connection to COMAND 2.0 / 2.5

Some time next year there will be a MOST adapter for iPOD and other much cheaper and more reasonable movie machines.

With the MOST adapter for iPod, would that mean that we can use the buttons on the COMAND unit as well as the steering wheel controls? And the text will show up on the COMAND display?

...as you know the MB Ipod kit only displays info in the IC - not on the comand...I know it would be cool to have the Ipod video show video in your IC but that is vey unlikely to ever happen...

greetingz,
thx steve. did not expect video on the IC (that would be bad - accident!). was thinking more along the lines of regular ipod kit integration, but then having a video input setting on the command somehow (thinking extremely out of the box here). so the sound would go through the regular path, and the video would show up on command. but as pointed out, the resolution would not be worth it, at least at this point.

I guess if COMAND can take video in (that yellow/red/white cable), it is certainly possible as I'm sure iPod video will have video out, my iPod photo has video out and I can easily hook it up in my Odyssey with an aux video port.

............i have photo-Ipod and and have video out to the Comand via the TV tuner. Relatively easy to do with the cable you can purchase from Apple. Picture is quite good. I control the IPOD with the new wireless remote control that allows you to scroll through your playlist with the remote control. It is an infra red system so I had my learning remote control learn the controls from the ipod remote so I have one remote with macros to control, TV, DVD, CD changer, IPOD, PS2 etc. Having said that, I don't use the IPOd video much. Not sure what I can use it for, since I can use the DVD player for video applications.

greetingz,
W221 seems to be able to do it .....

...... and BMW is working 24x7 on the next generation MOST interface for iPOD. Full integration is not that far away.

To make the buttons on the headunit control the ipod (and on the steering wheel) you need only to change the coding in the head unit to match the iPOD functions.

So it can be done in such a way that TV, DVD, iPOD all become options in the VIDEO section of the head unit. When there is a MOST gateway installed this is totally possible so long as the manufacturer offers the newer firmware.

Or newer firmware is developed for this purpose ....

Personally, I'm not interested in using the iPod for video (though this will be cool once the resolution improves). What would be great would be to have the COMAND screed display the album cover art for whatever is playing...
