I think if you're planning to keep the car after the manufacturers warranty is up, get an extended warranty. We all know benzes have reliability issues. They are very expensive to repair and maintain. The warranty should be well worth it.

Platinum: my sentiments exactly. In keeping with my diagnosis of having a 'car problem' I was thinking @ the new E63 but it doesn't appear to be much different than our 'cherished' E55's. Once again it is hard to improve on perfection! I am going to commit on the 3/100K extend. warr. Thanks to all for your input. Joker

Buy the Mercedes warranty. It is worth it. I have 3 years of extended warranty on my 2001 CLK55 and guess what happen 3 months after the original warranty expired? Part of front suspension and the transmission valve body needs to be replaced. I asked my SA what would the cost be without the warranty and he told me about $1000. Well that would be roughly about 40% of the cost of warranty and god know what else would brake. Plus these AMG cars are more costly to repair. Get the warranty and get peace of mind.
Speaking of warranty refund. The Lexus dealer told me any unused extended warranty is refunded when the car is traded it or if you decide not to keep the warranty. They stated it is New York state law to refund any unused portion of warranty. Can anyone verify this? I have always been told the Mercedes warranty is not refundable.

I purchased the MB extended warranty for my 03 E320. I have only used it once. After 80,000 miles the dealer replaced the front ball joints.
I was able to negotiate a 15% discount when I purchased the extended warranty. Since I put a lot of miles on my car, I purchased the one year/50K miles warranty.

extended warranty
Extended warranties are about peace of mind and I paid almost 2 grand for 2 extra years and never had a single claim (still have 6 months left) but the peace of mind every time I start it is worth something to me.
