Urgent technical help needed with my '97 E50...
Hi guys,
My car has been running smooth all these years, but today something odd happened. This morning the ESP was acting up and kept flashing on the dash, but the ride seemed fine.
Then this evening the car was noisy and jolty. The RPMs are fine when it's idling, but the car seems to shake a lot. The power of the car seems fine, but there was a slight problem with the shifting on occasion. The usual V8 rumble is immensly amplified making the entire garage resonate. I checked underneath the car, but couldn't spot any obvious damage. I believe the sound is coming from the rear of the vehicle towards that last quarter section.
One thing that could have caused damage is the drive way which is increadibly slanted and hence the mid section of the car often grinds on it on the way down, even when going slowly.
So my questions are:
Is it safe to drive it while I diagnose the problem and what could be the problem.
I hope someone has some insight into what could possibly cause this problem.
Thanks for your help...

I would not risk driving it without knowing what's wrong ...you might exacerbate the problem thus having it cost you significantly more $$$$$....just my opinion.
what's wrong?
You could put it up on a rack and do some troubleshooting but, based on what you said it could be related to the driveline, u-joint, or maybe a gear related problem inside the rear end.
