Calling all FL boys for GTG Friday Dec 9th at Moroso
Hi all
one last chance to wring out that 12 second quarter at the strip before they close Moroso for December.
I am going up Friday Dec 9th around 5 pm and hope that a bunch of you will all join me to make it a fun MBworld GTG. The weather is getting cooler and oxygen is getting denser.
I am hoping to take at least a chunk off my now very lame time of my 12.5 which I ran the same week last year when my beast was new. (Launch method was the almighty STOMP - granny mode, ESP on Comfort Setting)
This time I'm gonna be real sophisticated and see if I can FEEEEEEED the gas in smoothly, and run with ESP off.
Hope to see you all there - let em know if you can make it.
And PS - if you know of any freinds in S FL with the new M5, invite them along too for some friendly rivalry.
And PPS - been honing my photoshopping skills to help me get that 11 second time slip - Fiske youre gonna have your work cut out!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great to hear that you are in Rflow - hoping that Fikse, BenzoAMGpower, SGC and others will join in - its a real blast
and for those that have never taken their cars down the 1/4 mile - come on in, the waters warm! Last year I did it for the first time and although a bit intimidated at first, had such a blast that I couldnt get the smile off my face for a week!
C'mon Florida guys and gals - lets get a good turnout before the track is closed for December!

I'd get in contact with Neal *BlackC230* We've been trying to setup a SF GTG for a while now but everything seems to fall through. I'd post in the C32/C55 where there is a huge amount of SF presence or Events/Gatherings forum.
Kind of short notice but I'll see what I'm doing. I normally don't get to Miami till 9 or 10PM after I get everything squared away in Orlando. How long are you planning to be there?

I have extended a warm welcome to our M5 friends and I am hoping that some will join us, and have some fun together.
M5 Reach out
I am in awe of the M5 in the never regions and handling department - really wish that we had it in the E55

what is needed , in the way of on board safety gear. Fire Extinguisher. Helmet . . I assume there is some sort of tech inspection?? . How about a air tank / Floor jack/ What else' I'm only 10 miles from there. Gas on site " gas can & funnel

Just a helmet and pants, if you don't have a helmet you can rent one at the track. The tech inspection is pretty simple for cars slower than 11:59.
Hopefully we can get a good mbworld turn-out.

As mentioned above, all that you need to do to show up at Morosos is
bring $15.00
clear all the beer cans and loose junk out the back seat
wear your safety belt
bring or rent a helmet
wear long pants and closed shoes
its that simple
A tire pressure guage is definitely handy - when you get there let out pressure in rear tires to 25psi, and over inflate fronts to 45psi. At the end of the day re-inflate before you drive home - they have a compressor on site.
Should be fun - you will meet a bunch of cool guys and gals who JUST LOVE FAST CARS - some will run in the 10's and some as slow as 14's but everyone is having a blast - you will definitely make new friends and you wont get the grin off your face for a month!
BenzoAMGPower was going up to Moroso tonight and he should post his times soon - his friend with a similar Renntech chipped and pullied C32 was trying out new headers

Hey Eagleeye
Really look forward to seeing you again - damn we had so much fun at the AMG challenge at Homestead Raceway. Still laugh when I think about our "evasive tactics - granny killing" episodes!!!!
Cmon down to Moroso - you'll be surprised how exciting a 1/4 mile run is. Its just as much fun as tossing the car around the Autocross track, I promise.
See you all on Friday

Hi Guys
Lets just say that all you stock E55 12-flat kings can breath a sigh of relief – you are very safe for now. The conditions at Moroso were less than ideal. Rain delayed the track opening, and the temp ranged from a high of 78 early on to a low of 73 at the end of the night, but the real killer was humidity at 89%. Later on a 10 mph wind started blowing down the track, creating a slight head wind.
The good side of all this is that there were very few cars there compared to my last time so I managed to get in 8 runs! Yeehah! And yeah, I know that to get faster times I should have done fewer runs and let my car cool more between runs, but my observation was that seeing as how the conditions weren’t so great, I would rather spend as much times as possible trying out all the advice I have been given on launching and see if I could isolate what works for me and what doesn’t.
A few MBWORLD forum members showed up –
PTE showed up with a lovely gold CLK55 with some mods and ran some consistent fast runs (really fast)
Rflow36 showed up with his hot looking E55 and ran similar times to mine on motor, and then went all out on spray for the first time.
I’ll let them post their times
Disappointingly no M5’s showed up. Was hoping to get a closer look and see their full head of steam at the end of the strip – I know our 60ft has them beat but they come on real strong at the end. The good side of it is that there were several M5BOARD members that showed up because of my invitation, M5 Reach Out and ran everything from M3’s to 323’s, and one even loaned a buddies car to do it! Met some fun guys from the M5BOARD.
Now that all the excuses outside my control are listed above, let me give you a synopsis of my approach.
Setup and Approach
My car is bone stock with 9,000 miles.
Rear PS2’s at 28psi to start. Fronts left at 35psi
Drove around the water and did varying lengths of dry burnouts to heat the tires. Analyzing the times I cannot tell if heating tires a lot or a little really made much of a difference.
I ran in comfort mode (softest) suspension setting all night
I let the shifter shift for me all night
I started in 1st all night.
I varied some runs with ESP on and some with ESP off. My three best runs were with ESP off, but my worst runs were also with ESP off, so while running with ESP off is riskier, I definitely know that it pays off for me on that track under those conditions – cannot speak for anyone else. So I will be working at better control of my launches with ESP off. Feeding in the throttle smoothly is key, allowing the rear to set before going WOT.
So now on to the results
RESULTS
My trap speeds were DISMAL – Only the first two runs were in the 112 range (fastest at 112.37) and the other 6 were all in the 111mph range (slowest 111.31). Way off my trap speeds from last year (114), but conditions were way worse, especially humidity.
My ET’s were definitely better – but nothing earth shattering. My 5th run yielded my best ET of 12.332, followed by 12.380, 12.450, several 12.5’s and my worst was 12.957 sliding sideways at the start. With my previous best of 12.50, I came down just shy of .17 seconds, and it was all in the 60ft time. So I am reasonably happy that I am going in the right direction.
My 60fts made dramatic improvement. Thanks to all your advice, this is where I made the most improvement – The 12.332 run was due to a great (for me) 1.796sec 60ft time, 1/8th at 7.907 (88.05mph) and trap of 111.81mph. I had several 60ft times in the 1.8 sec range – much improved over my 1.990 best of last year. So all your launching tips really paid off – thanks guys.
So where to now?
Now that I am honing in on my launch approach, I will continue to experiment within those confines. I do not have my launch dialled completely yet as my 60ft times are still way too variable. I have some work to do there. Hopefully a cool crisp night will present itself soon so I can chase those elusive 12-flats.
Hope to see you all on the strip sometime soon

Hey Danny It was really good meeting you and pte, thanks for the compliments.
My results were a little different, best run on motor came with esp on. Esp off with the big wheels for me wasn't working.
60ft:1.879
330ft:5.252
1/8:8.012
mph:88.91
1000ft:10.391
1/4:12.387
112.99
weather wasn't great but better than when I went on June 8 which has been my best with the 20's. It ran 12.339 at 113.27 with a 1.963 60ft -93deg. The only thing that I am noticing is some belt squeal on the shifts, has this happened to anyone else.?. I was really hoping for a 12 teen or twenty due to the weather.
Now on to my first nitrous pass at the track. I am hitting the nitrous at the top of 2nd gear.
60ft:1.963
330ft:blank on slip
1/8:7.856
mph 94.31
1000ft:10.086
1/4:11.955
MPH:119.22
Not pleased with the et or mph. I should have left the same nozzle and jets I tuned on the dyno with and not change to a stainless steel soft plum nozzle which typically works better on a high pressure wet system. I also went down two jet sizes on the nos from a 47 to a 45. I am going back to the dyno to tune with the changes hopefully Monday or Tuesday and try again. My goal is to go 11.50's on the 20's.
Moral of the story is don't second guess yourself.
