Car and Driver Tests the M5
Got the January issue of Car and Driver today and they test the M5 againest the CLS55 and Cadillac STS-V. 0-60 both the M5 and CLS55 @ 4.2. O-100 M5 edges CLS55 9.4 to 9.8. 1/4 miles M5 12.5 @ 118 mph, CLS55 12.6 @ 114 mph. 0-150 M5 20.7 sec, CLS55 24.9 sec. A 2 mile road course M5 1:31.25/78.9 mph, CLS55 1:32.55/77.8 mph. For a V10 with 500 hp that revs to 7750 rpms it's not that impressive since many of our members E55's rack up better 1/4 mile times then this CLS55. What do ya'll think?

Pretty impressive, however I always have felt that Car & Driver is a little on the optimistic side with their performance numbers. Either that, or they have really crappy equipment!
That said, I guess that wouldn't really matter in this case because both cars ran pretty damn fast....
*cough* erm, carry on...

2005 Brilliant Silver E55
Considering the M5 launches like a Honda, I don't know how they managed 0-60 in 4.2 seconds. The LC won't let it go beyond 1600 to 1800 (couldn't tel exactly in my car) and IMO in order to achieve great off the line punch for the M5, it really needs to launch over 2500RPM...WayneE can add more comments I'm sure.

Car and Driver just posted an IS350 doing 5.1 and 13.7 1/4... and other mags have been .4 to .5 slower.... MT and R&T
I think the same applies here... they are way too optimistic.
But, hey if they recorded those times, more power to them. In real world driving, most M5 owners know their vehicles are hard to launch perfectly.
They should of included the E55.... to be more fair.
