First Oil Changes - use dealer?

First Oil Changes - use dealer?
Its been a long time since I've had a new car. But, I used to change the oil at 1000, 2000, 3000 and every 3000 thereafter. I'm told that is unnecessary for my '06 E55 but (even assuming thats true) can such frequent changes cause any harm (can't imagine but never know). Also, is there any reason not to let my highly competent and trustworthy local mechanic do the oil changes vs. the dealer?

With Mobil One, no need to change every 3 like regular oil, I believe it's about every ten with synthetic. Some guys still hit it every 3-5 regardless. It's overkill, but nothing wrong with that.....it only preserves that motor.
Rather buy a used 55 with that kinda record.
I guess you could take it to a local mechanic for changes, but man......an 2006 55 is pushing, if not over 100K.....why risk it???? I would pay the annoying 100-150$ and have er done at the stealer.
I got the 03 so I get it done on the house......not sure what changes run at the dealer.

i'm going in on friday for my first "complimentary inspection" etc., and have asked the stealer to factor in an oil change b/c the car's got about 1700 mi. and it's not a lease, and not something i'll be flipping in a few years.
the service booker gave me all sorts of argument about how it's not necessary and not recommended, etc. i was getting tired of her b.s. without the support of any real reasons ("we don't recommend it" is hardly an argument), so i said i'd love to give her employer my money, and if i can't get it done there i'll go to my favorite independent benz joint and have them do it. she then said i could discuss it further with the service adviser when i get there friday.
is there any reason not to get the oil and filter changed at this time? is it really unnecessary and "not recommended"? does anyone know whether perhaps the amg guys build the engine, run it on the bench for awhile and then change out the oil and filter before dropping it into the car, perhaps making the 1000 mi change unnecessary?
would appreciate hearing from you folks about these questions. thanks,
vic
