Tyre size

I have noticed that USA posters have 275/35 rear tyres on their E55210's, we in the UK have 265/35 rear tyres, was this standard for each country?

I don't own a W210, I have a W211. I think that 265 is OEM but that just about everybody goes to a 275 for the extra 10mm, and there are no resultant problems from doing so.
Hope that helped.

W210 has 275 factory for North American market, W211 has 265.

I agree, one of the best things done to my W211 E55 was to upgrade to Michelin PS2s in the proper size, 275!

Tyre technology moves on rapidly...and in any event, it is the shape of the contact patch that will change with the wider tire not the size - this remains as a constant

It's to do with the XL rating =Extra Load. 265 tire is XL (97Y)but the 275 is not (95Y). I think it's 730kg and 690kg respectively, at 51psi (who drives at such pressure?).
We all go to 275, because it is a better match diameter wise with the front 245, but at our own risk. I calculated that in order to actually reach the maximum load on each rear tire as specified by the OEM 265/35/18 97Y load rating, we would need to exceed the Gross Vehicle Mass by about 20%.
Go figure!

Not disagreeing with anyone, but the car does "push" more with the 275s. Just depends on your desire. If you want better launches, the 275s have LARGER contact patch. Whoever said the shape alone changes may have meant something else. Obviously, tire profile, rim size, etc also affects it.
Has anyone tried running the 265s in the front and 275s in the rear? This would actually give the car a more inclined stance since the 245s are actually taller than the 265s.
