Changing COMAND Nav Voice

To anybody who has gotten this to work. I spent the last few hours trying to do this with no luck.
1) I'm on a mac using Hexeditor (same as in the picture)
2) I cannot seem to find where the offset entry goes, nor can I find where to update the size.
Could you provide a few more details such as this? I have reviewed the Cormac Wiki entry, along the the postings on your website, and cannot get it to work

Ok, Here's what I did/tried.
1) COMMAND v. Nov 2005.1
2) DVD Decrypter to generate a .ISO file. (2 files)
3) Hex Editor Freeware to hack .ISO file www.softcircuits.com/cygnus/ (the largest file)
4) Then DVD Decrypter to generate a DVD NAV disk
Well, All things were changed and DVD was created successfully. I use the NAV+5 to so a Software Update (took 15secs). Put up a POI to go to...and then....Nothing.
On my disk, the file & offset was the same as stated on the instructions post by carmac.
Am I missing something here?

Cormac, this is a great thread.
Congratulations, you did a great job figuring this out.
I live in Portugal and I use the Europe NAVTEQ DVD Version 5.0 on my W211.
I was trying to figure out how to change the Portuguese NAV voice (which sucks as it is too synthesized, unlike the UK or USA voices which sound like real female voices). Of course I can change to the UK voice and still keep all the COMAND functionality by simply changing the COMAND language but I just want to change the voice and keep everything else (menu language in Portuguese)
I can also change to the USA voice by using the 357 trick but by doing that I lose the Europe functionality (DVD, RDS, etc) - the DVD button brings up the SAT menu instead, which I don't want.
So this info you have posted here is exactly what I'm looking for.
It seems that the offset and size info for each language is located in the 8 bytes just before each file name. Is this correct?

Note that we only have 11 languages to choose from, and that the language file names end with .SM5 and not .SP5 as in the North American DVD.

I wouldn't expect an answer from cormac...his last post was almost a year ago.
Edit: If you check his post #44 : "Also, I ran into some issues with getting the Navi-DVD change to take".
Then #46 was his last...so apparently this hack doesn't work and he bailed. (although the link to his Wiki still does work)

I tried this hack on this disc with no success.
Here's what I did.
1) Copied all files from the NAVI DVD (version 6.0) to my hard drive.
2) Opened the SDB_1873b.DB file with a hex editor and swapped the entries for "GB_FRAU1_V3210_32.SM5" and "POR_FRAU1_V0610_31.SM5" as described in my previous post.
3) Burned a new NaviDVD with these changes and with the same disc label.
4) Called service menu with the Nav+5 trick
5) Selected "Start Navi update"
The Navigation started but I then got a "Fatal exception error" on screen.
Btw, the language database file (SDB_1873b.DB) on the 2007 Euro disc (version 6.0) is exactly the same as the 2006 disc (version 5.0) - they both have the same file name and checksum. This file only has 11 languages.

Maybe this hack only works on this old language database file.

I would like to confirm that this method still works on 2009 DVD (NTG1 V8.0 Part# BQ 6 46 0243).
After you swap 4 bytes in front of the name as described in original post and burned new DVD you will have to go into service menu and do following:
1) Call service menu with the Nav+5 trick
2) Selected "Start Navi update"
3) Select Language -> English GB and let it load from DVD
4) Turn off your car
Next time you start navigation it will be island girl talking to you.
P.S. You have to modify original (well copy of it) ISO image directly. These offsets are for that particular ISO disk addresses. If you created new ISO image it will change locations of these files and offsets will no longer work..

I have a friend who lives with a Danish lady,,she always argued over the route chosen by the Comand, so I changed the language from English to Danish and she has never complained since.
Some of you may not know that if you find the voice too quite, turn up the volume when she is talking and all Comand messages will come through at that higher volume

I have the Mercedes-Benz Harman Becker COMAND - North America Map DVD v.8.0 on an E320 CDI Navigation system. I have created an iso file from the DVD and used a HEX editor to swap the 8 bytes in front of "GB_FRAU1_V3210_32.SM5" with the 8 bytes in front of "USA_FRAU1_V2020_32.SM5" within the iso file. I save the new iso file. It has exactly the same number of bytes as the un-edited iso file. I then write the file to a DVD+R using Nero (Book type: DVD-ROM) on a slow speed. I insert the new DVD into the Comand computer in the trunk. From the Comand service menu I select "Start Navi update". After about a minute I receive a message "Navigation cannot be activated" . Using the Wiki as reference (http://comand.wik.is/) I would like to have the British voice, not the USA voice as default. I can burn un-edited COMAND - North America Map DVD v.8.0 iso files and they work without a problem.
Have you been successful changing the voice to British female permanently? If so, please comment as to where I might have missed a step. Both ENiks and Television members have claimed success.

A quick note, thanks to Cormac and sharing the code to extract the DB files, I found out that Mercedes uses the exact same software as Audi.
So Cormac's tool FLDBUTIL works for Audi nav aswell.
I'll try to rewrite his tool not no extract but also pack those files. so its easy to modify it contents. ( the compiled version from Cormac to a windows command file executable: http://www.xs4all.nl/~semtex/Fldbutil.rar )
