Star lowering

I just recieved an email from Steve @ MbenzNL and they say with the Star lower down to my 04 E55 anything over the stock wheels may rub... so how many experiance this when doing daily driving? I live in So. Cal so roads are OKAY at very best... just wondering as I was planning on at least 19" replace wheels soon...

thanks!

It all depends on the wheel size/wheel offset/tire size of your wheel/tire combo. There's plenty of guys here who have experienced no rubbing with aftermarket wheels/tires on their lowered cars.

I've got 19x9 and 19x10 with 255 & 295 tires, lowered by Steve just over 1" and absolutely no rubbing anywhere.

I contacted Steve too. He noted the car should be realigned after the lowering.

"Since we have no alignment rack to enter numbers in the computer, you should plan to have your car aligned at a shop afterwards, and make sure that you give explicit instructions not to disturb the ride height."

true?

FYI! Steve was very responsive. He will be doing several installs for me in Feb.

2004 E55
Well, my question regarding alignment, since we already have the adjustable suspension on the E55, what is he changing as far as alignment if it's just changing the values read by the computer? Do these cars have a camber and caster adjustment... showing my newness to these cars...

sure you can but experience taught us that some aftermarket wheels tend to rub (ESPECIALLY the so-called manufactured-to-fit HREs) - some of them even before the car gets lowered (On my last trip I had somebody coming by with a new E55 that had 20inch HREs AND 1 deformed front fender - and that was without lowering)...

As far as alignment is to be concerned: every car that gets lowered has to be aligned - no matter wether it has steel springs, airmatic or ABC - because lowering always changes the alignment of the car.

greetingz,

greetingz,
must have been made for another car or had excessively oversized tires to rub without the car lowered,i have 20" HRE'S AND A KLEEMANN MODULE and no issues at all with tires contacting fender on either the insides or bottom edge of fenderwell.

04' E55
Not true. I have an 04' E55 outfitted with a set of 20" HRE 542R's, and have no issues whatsoever. I got my car lowered using the star diagnostics, and my tires are 275/30/20 and 245/30/20.

When lowering the car, just keep in mind that if you drop it too much, it may rub. I went with about 1" in the front and 1/2" in the rear. Looks perfect.

Guys I noticed that fenders are Rolled from the factory on our cars so if you have rubbing then your offset is wrong or your tires are too big. Since the fenders are rolled you really dont have to much room for wider tires. Of course if the fenders were not rolled then we could roll them and get wider tires and wheels.
