TIRES...bfg d/radials,nittos 555r or michilins ps2?
#26
I asked Luke at the Tirerack about DOT-legal drag tires a while back. He said that he drags with the BFG drag radials and says that they hookup better and produce better ET's:
I have also read other drag enthusiasts who say taht the Mickey Thompsons seriously kick butt on everything else out there by a mile.
But I don't drag, so I don't rally know....
Posted by: Luke@tirerack I have run the Nitto Drag Radial on my drag car and also the BFG's .... with the BFG's I can trun quicker 60' times and carry the front tires for 45-55 feet. with the Nitto's I lost almost .10 seconds on the 60's and the front tires were only off the ground for 25-30 feet. I have not run the Toyo's since it is not a "drag" tire or the new Mickey's which are supposed to be pretty good. My drag car is a 56 Belair that runs low 10's on pump gas.
But I don't drag, so I don't rally know....

I run PS2's on my Iforged 19s on the street and have a pair of BFG DR's on the stock wheels for the track. I love the PS2's. You'll never come near the traction that DR's give with a regular street tire. If you plan to drag regularly, I'd highly recommend a pair of DR's dedicated for the track. It takes 10 minutes to swap them out with your factory jack and a little elbow grease and you wont be burning through the street tires as often. Even better than BFG on stockers would be a set of the 16" Mickey Thompson DR's on a pair of CCW wheels.

The nittos i have found to be a great all round tire for both drag racing and regular driving, and gives semi decent thread life.
The bf/g drag radials stick like glue, with poor high speed stabality and poor thread life.......this is the closest you get to drag tires that can be driven on the street.
This brings us to the michilins ps2. While i have never tried it i have heard good things these tires, and their performance.
Can someone who have had experience ,likes and dislikes with all three tires .eloberate on their prefference.
