2005 E55 Delivered 01/07/05
New addition to fam.

Just added to my family of cars and bought a '06 997S. Sorry to tell you guys this car is way more fun to drive than my '05 E55 and even my '69 SS big block Camaro!!!!

The 997S and the E55 are living in my climate controlled warehouse and are getting along just fine like 2 long lost brothers from Stuttgart :p

MBH,
2005 E55
2006 997S
1969 Camaro SS big block
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Hemi power
2005 Ram 3500 Cummins power pick up
2000 Lincoln ( slumming around car )

4 wheels
Car looks great MBH, though I am not liking those wheels on the 997S.

I bet it drives like its on rails or something. Any mods planned?

This 997S is amazing yeh it drives like it's on railes, It so much more fun to drive than the E55. Maybe because it handles better and it;s a stick

On the '69 SS Camaro those dollys make it easy to move around. That is a very heavy car. On the E55 so the tires don't get flat spots from sitting all winter. I use my Grand Cherokee, my Ram, and my Lincoln all winter. The other cars sit most of the time.

I will look at a 997TT when they come out. I plan on holding onto the 997S for 2 to 3 years since I bought it. It is a great driving car.

The '69SS is super clean. The paint on that car is just amazing. Pic's do it no justice.

Thanks for the kind words.

Very nice stable you have there! I do think the "lobster claw" 997 wheels are less than desirable however thats quite simple to correct

That Camaro looks like a monster!

Congrats on the 997S! I have been thinking about one myself, but would like some personal impressions from you if you get a chance. I realize the 997S and E55 are 2 different animals, and I realize in straight line the E55 will take the 997S quite easily...but how would you compare seat of the pants feel in highway driving between the 2 cars, regarding raw power.

Just before I typed this I was out taking a short cruise in the E55, hit an onramp and have been grinning since. Would you say the 997S feels sluggish in comparison? I know the 997S shines in many other aspects, as I've noticed with my Boxster, but lately I've been bitten by the HP bug. Just curious if the 997S would leave me with an empty feeling in that regard. With that said, even my Boxster with a fraction of the E55's power, still feels peppy at low speeds, but once I hit 60-70 it runs out of steam fast.

Thanks!

Arrrggghhh... another temptation for me.... should I wait for 997TT or just settle w/ 997S / C4S? Goosfraba.... goosfraba.... goosfraba

I really missed my 996 C4S

Hey, what's the name of the thing you put underneath the E55's tires? Does it really help avoiding flat spots? I sometimes don't drive my cars for couple weeks and S03's are very easy to get flat spots.

Thanks, me too I love the new 997. I've driven several 996's and they are nice cars but the 997 is all the more better. It's 30% stiffer, handles better, and has a much nicer interior.

[QUOTE=nrgy]Congrats on the 997S! I have been thinking about one myself, but would like some personal impressions from you if you get a chance. Well we are comparing apples to oranges here. The E55 makes it's power with low end torque and the 997S with high reving HP. The E55 weighs well over 4,000 lbs. and the 997S weighs a little over 3,000lbs. A savings of almost 900 lbs. that makes a difference and is the reason why a bone stock 997S can do the 1/4 miles in 12.6 range. Yes the E is faster in the quarter, but not by too much. What can a bone stock E55 do the 1/4 mile 12.4's , 12.3's?? Where the 997S stands out is how much pleasure it gives it's driver. It is that much more fun to drive than the E55. It will blow it away in any turn, corner, hairpin etc. , and the sound that 3.8liter flat six makes is just pure music. The driver feels so much more involved than in the E. Don't get me wrong I still love my E55, but the 997S is a whole different world.

Actually thought about getting rid of my E55 for a 997S. would rather keep E and also have 997S but I think my wife would freak LOL. On another note, went to an Aston Martin dealer last week to see the new Vantage 8. Very nice I'll take one of those too please!

They are two differnt animals. But, I will say the 997S is more fun to drive and it gives the driver such a great feel for driving. It's hard to explain, go out and drive one and you'll see what I'm talking about. I still love me E55 and have No plans on getting ride of it.

I'll also take Vantage 8 any day!!!

wow, i'm green... those new porsche's are very pretty cars - the front end is nicely restored to the "classic" look with the return of those round headlights, and overall it's nicely updated without being retro. like someone else said, you're a lucky man!

on a related note, a friend of mine just drove one of the first cayman's off the truck and he (who has owned other 911's, a boxster and a ferrari, among other fast exotics - and a nice '74 trans am fully ***-kicked out (kind of like your camaro, come to think of it...)) said it's the most radical-driving porsche he's driven, and that it does things that other porsche's didn't - like full-on doughnut sideways driving smokey and the bandit-style hot-rodding! can't wait to see/drive one myself. he said that it's a much louder car b/c of the engine position and closed cabin, though.

you must have a difficult time deciding what to drive on any given nice day!

I have a 996tt and of course an E55. Yes the 996 is more fun to drive but I live in California and drive the 405 and the 101 daily so my choice if I had to have one only is the E55. Its nice though to have that weekend runner isnt?
