New M5 1/4 time (dragtimes)

I think I am now convinced that the new M5 will in no way "crush" a stock E55 let alone a modified one on the street. All the Gustav hype now seems a little (a lot) optimistic.

1/4 Mile ET: 12.992
1/4 Mile MPH: 116.360
1/8 Mile ET: 8.716
1/8 Mile MPH: 90.740
0-60 Foot ET: 2.460
Temperature F: 65.0
Car Make: BMW
Car Model: M5
Car Type:
Car Year: 2006
Driver: Erol Buyuk
E-Mail: Private
Videos:
Web Site:

I have to admit though, a Black M5 with black HRE shoes does look very mean.

neither will crush eachother, so far it's pretty clear that if you race an M5 from a stop, the E55 will have a nice lead, and the M5 probably won't be able to catch up and pass.... the MPH of that run shows that a highway run would be REALLY close....

He pulled 116MPH in 60 degree weather, which is probably what an E55 would do under the same conditions...

when I ran my E55 the same night as an M5, we both pulled 114MPH.... 75 degree weather....

That's a useless slip as far as ET goes; I think I could run 60 feet faster than that. Other than that it looks fairly consistent with previous M5 slips and doesn't really change anything.

That's my point!! These cars are generally not going to run low 12s or high 11s @120mph like some homers predicted.

mid 12's with a decent 60ft...

we have yet seen a recorded time slip under 12.5

the hardest thing for this car is the take off, the US LC is not as aggresive as the Euro spec. Therefore the handicap will be the take off. Those cars will have a hard time getting 1.6 to 1.8 (60ft)

Once the 6speed version of the E60 M5 comes out, you will see better 60ft times.

Better 60 foot times, but perhaps not a better e.t. or MPH due to the loss of one cog and the additional time required for shifting. We shall see.

I agree...

the gearing for the 6 speed with be a bit different... and the SMGII is pretty quick when selected on (S6)

The guy with the posted M5 1/4 mile time has NEVER dragged before. This was his first visit to a drag strip and admitted that he had tons of problems with wheel spin. He also said for the majority of the night he had his tire pressure set at 40psi until someone finally rold him he would get better times if he lowered his tire pressure. He lowered it to 29psi and voila, he got a sub 13 sec time. I think a seasoned driver can easily do mid 12s all day long

Gup,

This is the picture I was thinking about, although on closer review I'm not sure they are HREs..............bad, none the less.

E60 M5
hi too all
this is my first post in the mbworld forum, i own 06 blue m5 and i have raced with a stock e55 both of us raced the same time 1st gear we were together when i shifted to gear 2 i was infront of him until i reached 250km/h and then stopped so i was just wondering why most of you say that the m5 cant crush the stock e55
and regarding the black m5 posted it is styled by hamman not a big fan of it though.
this is another pic of the m5 hamman widebody in interlagos blue

Did you race from a stop or a rolling start?

1. look again, not the same kit. the black is far more subtle.
2. we have a number of members who have both, race them against each other, and report the results. If you are saying you can take an E55 in the standing 1/4, it'll be the first time any of us have heard that, on either board (m5board.com) for that matter.

You raced an E55 and can't remember if it was from a stop or a roll. Hmm!! Ok. Must have been from a rolling start because I think the E55 is much faster of the line.

congrats on the M5..

from a roll, the M5 has a better chance depending on the grip of the E55. The torque of the E55 will make it slip and slide if the driver is not careful. The shorter gear of the M5 is better from a rolling start.. just ask GUSTAV

from a stop, it has been document by our members that own an M5 and E55, the Amg will be the king of the street. Real 1/4 mile times show that the E55 can pull low 12's really easily, and some members (very few) have hit high 11's.

Once in the highway, the M5 due to its v10 7 gears, it trumps just about everything.

However with a simple pulley and chip, E55 owners can make their car perform about equal to the M5 on the highway.

It seemes to me that which ever car gets the jump,(given two equal drivers)
is gonna win. With that much torque over the BMW,the E55 should pull away on the bottom, but towards the end of the 1/4 mile the BMW should be coming like a freight train..........but reading the threads of those that own M5,things are different.

all i said is that ive raced an e55 and i after gear 2 he was behind me, so don't put words in my mouth.
the e55 is one very fast car and iam not trying to disrespect the car but i just wanted to say my reslut after racing the e55

iam with you ive been reading the e55 timings and it says that 1/4 the e55 is a faster car and in the highway the m5 will crush it thats wat every1 says but when i raced the e55 i was infront of him until 250km/h maybee the e55 owner wasnt a good driver/or something was wrong with his car who knows

Has this been proven by anyone on the board. An e55 with chip and pulley can perform equal on the highway with an M5. Do you mean that the M5 will not pull on a chipped E55 with a pulley above 120 mph?
