Fuel economy question regarding new 6.2 V8
The current E55 AMG gets 15 city/21 hwy mpg, which is a very respectable figure given its output, especially compared to the E60 M5, which gets 12/18... Despite a greater power output, my C55 gets significantly better gas mileage than my B6 S4 (also V8 powered)... Does anyone have an idea as to the projected fuel economy estimates for the new 6.2 liter V8? Thanks...

The car will be revving higher, regardless of gearing. I suspect it will stay the same or worse. Just look at how terrible the M5 fuel economy is. It also has 7 gears, but you need to rev the **** out of it and work it hard to get anywhere.

too bad the 7 speed tranny is a POS. I had it in my E500 and after 5K on the clock it went bad and took 14 weeks to get a new one from germany. just my opinion though.
and mine was not an isolated incident. Bad computers on the tranny.

a few...
I hate the 7 speed. AMG better do something with it. You have to go into 3rd gear just to get to 60! What is that?
I am sure that they will work on it, because if not then that would be horrible.
The 7 speed is nice and all, keeps you around the same rpm when it shifts and it feels silky smooth, but sometimes it just gets redundant to have to flip down 4 gears to pass someone...

i think the MPG will be about the same...
but the 2 additional gears will have a greater top speed pull then the current 55k motor..
I'm thinking the gear rations 1 thorough 4 would be the same, and 5, 6 and 7 will be greatly reduced to provide better performance.
with all the Gas/Oil prices circumstances/ I doubt that AMG would market a car that has worst MPG than its predecessor... its not a very good marketing move.
I would say they will find a compromise to keep it about the same, maybe a bit better on Highway.... but not by much.

I understand why some hate the 7 speed. I must say however, ive never had a problem with it through 15k (knock on wood). Everytime i put the pedal to the floor, it downshifts correctly and takes off.
