Pretend what...I have some AMG parts and the badge signifies that. The AMG badge does not necessarily signify the engine...the number following the model designation does (ex. SL73 AMG = 7.3 Litre Motor).

Here's a photo of my car (excuse the pic the car is very dirty)...tell me if you honestly believe it will look better if it doesn't say SL600 AMG.

I really don't understand why some of you guys get so annoyed. I really wouldn't mind if someone badged their SL320 as a 600.

Regards

I would, very much.

But if you have a SL600 and badge it as a SL320, that's a lot more tolerable, but somewhat silly. I'd do it if I were working on a true sleeper.

Personally, I don't care either; do what feels right. After all, you're paying for it so who is anyone else to deny pride of ownership?

I thought that in certain years of your generation of SL class, the "sport" models (or perhaps an uber-sport AMG model) did feature the AMG badging, since i've seen it on a few of them in LA. It never gave me pause before. No reason for it to now.

I don't think anyone here is per se bothered or torched up about rebadging -- we're not talking about some lame cartoons in the funny pages, after all. But it's the source of amusement/bemusement when a youngster who's put himself into an admirable ride like, say, an e320 (even without the $5-8k "appearance package") feels the need to go the extra mile and add the AMG badges. Still, I take my hat off to 'em: it's a great thing to be passionate and have dreams/ambitions.

edit) might i add that the totally blacked out look is really cool!!! i had the same thing going on with a '92 190E i owned for a year; black w/ tint, smoked euro head- and cornering lamps and dark smoked taillamps. if the tranny hadn't started sounding like a bull in heat and the engine leaking oil like ol' faithful, i'd still be driving that thing today...

Thanks man.

(Sorry your ride died...from what you said, it sounded like a cool car.)

yeah; that '92 was a way cool car once i got all those appearance updates on there. i was shopping a set of AMG monoblocks (a la the '01/02 e55, etc.) to throw on, and had a line on a lowering kit to complete the whole effect... then the mechanicals started to signal big money coming (or in this case "going") soon and the rush to sell was on!

since then i had a storied and near-calamitous '03 Jag S type R whose dashboard went into "vegas mode" on the guy who bought it less than two weeks after i traded it in on my e55 wagon (a much cooler car than that '92 190, incidentally ), when he took it on his first road trip and blew out the rear diff, tranny and a few other underhood necessities. poor slob. he should've checked out www.thelurch.com ...

only my first car, a '65 pontiac grand prix, could compare to the e55 for its sheer ability to induce euphoria. i loves me a well-crafted benzomobile!

Ok, You caught me.

I installed genuine AMG parts on my E320, body kit, wheels, instrument cluster. I upgradded the exhaust and the intake as well. I am not trying to pose as an E55 but I admire the look, so I took the "0" off and left it with just E32 on the trunk. I would not put a E55 on it and think that the 32 is appropriate. I don't race but I like the style better than the stock look. I am happy with it and don't feel that I am hurting anyone in the process. There was this one old guy at the Mercedes dealership that was confused when he could not get in to my car with the remote from his black E55. He was parked somewhere else and mistook mine for his.

you're not the only one; the car i was talking about was one of the newer models. since the AMG appearance package even has articulated dual exhausts (although only in 2 single outlets, rather than the quads in the '55), this guy really had it going on! i guess, since it's more than the regular "sport/appearance" package and looks like the amg model (and has all the damn bodywork and lower profile anyway) i suppose it's just as well to badge the thing and be done with it!

-- had i known that AMG would make its appearance package available to other cars in the line, i might have considered a lesser (and cheaper) model and dolled it up to look as slick as the '55 too! not like i'll ever use all this power, after all.

thing is, in the 90's there really was an e32 though, right? i've seen a few early/mid-90's E's with that appellation on the rear, and they've got the bodywork, etc. too.

btw E-Klasse, that's a hella nice car!

I know that there was an E36, E50 and then the E55 in the 90's.

Didn't know there was an E36 AMG...so I looked it up. Much to my surprise it was in the older E Body Style (the best one IMO). Found a very nice black one on a Benz World Gallery.

I think debadged cars are hotter. I'm trying to get some time free to get moms trunk repainted to fill in the holes after I debadge her car.
The only holes are under the star in the middle of the trunk lid.
The other badges are stuck on with double-sided tape. Nice one Ricky...

Mom has a LS430, not a beast like an AMG E55.
