Tele Aid

My complementary subscription is going to expire soon. I have never used the service, but I suppose it is a good fall back plan if needed. The cost of renewal is $240 per year. Just wondering what you guys think about the service, if you use it, and did you renew your subscription after the first year. Thanks.

I don't have it now, but I'm thinking about getting it, did you use it last year when it was free?

I made my initial "Get Acquainted" call the day of delivery. Then one day when Sirius was not working, I attempted to make a call to ask why. After about 15 minutes of pushing the i button, I gave up. It either did not go through or I was inundated with voice menus. Overall, it was a frustrating experience.

I can't see any reason to keep it other than the possibility of peace of mind. I doubt that I will ever need the unlock feature, as I have keyless go and it is virtually impossible to lock the key in the car.

So, at this point, I can't think of a real good reason to keep it. I was just wondering what everyone else is doing.

I keep mine going just for the sake of posssibly needing it in a breakdown or emergency. Mostly also, I suppose, in case someone else is driving the car and doesn't have any other means of calling for assistance. Same thing with the nav updates.... And of course the subscription fees are negligable to me.

I have yet to use Teleaid as well(!)

save the $240 a year for something else. It would be one thing if you could call plp from it like Onstar but Teleaid is pretty much worthless unless u have no idea on how to change a flat tire or forget to full up your tank of gas. As for the consierge service, im sure u have credit cards that offer the same benefits but for free.

As far as breakdowns or emergencies go, I have one to two cell phones in the car at all times. I can use them for anything that Tele Aid can do. I just have to push one or two more buttons. OK, I'm convinced that it is a waste of money for that purpose. I guess that stolen vehicle tracking is the only valid need. That one is questionable to me, too. If a thief is good enough to steal the car, then he is intelligent enough to cut the wire to the antenna, thus disabling Tele Aid. I guess I'm not much of a supporter of the service and I will let it expire.

This topic is dealt w/ in other threads/forums, most under Audio & Electronics. I kept mine for several years just out of habit, but gave it up when I realized I almost never used it. In fact, I found using my cell phone was more efficient under almost all circumstances. I'd probably keep it in my mother's car, but unless you are handicapped in some way, dump it!

yea, I agree, even the break on insurance isn't worth it, I'm thinking about the new upgraded Lojak instead... I've got at least two phones in the car at all times too, so if I need gas or a food... I think I'll have it covered as well...
