Looking for a preowned E55
I am contemplating on getting a preowned E55 to replace my 2001 CLK55. So I did my usual search on the Mercedes Benz preowned website and decided to ask for a price quote from a Mercedes dealer at Tysons Corner in VA. I was quoted a 2005 E55, 6000 miles, silver ext./ merlot interior, for $79500. It is fairly loaded with option but I thought the price was quite high for a preowned considering Mercedes is having a sale with the 2006 E55. I would mind a 2004 with no more than 20K miles since it will obviously be cheaper. What do you guys think of a realistic price would be for a 2004 or 2005 E55?

I would run a search on Auto Trader and see what comes up. I have an 05 silver on charcoal with 6,700 miles (and brand new PS2's). I would suspect that $73k is probably what it is worth, but I have not tried selling it. $79k sounds very high.
Been reading much about why values on the E55 are dropping. Two major reasons have been given - the replacement E63 and the new CLS.
In my opinion, unless the new E63 looks very different, and the E63 handles like an M car, I don't see values dropping much further because of the new car. I think when the dust settles, many people are going to realize that there is a tremendous value in being able to extract another 50 -100 hp from the 55 motor with "simple" bolt-ons.
The CLS is a great car, but it only seats 2 in the back. I can see it taking some E55 sales, but have a hard time believing that a great percentage of people decided against the E55 in favor or the CLS. If you really need a back seat, the CLS is a compromise.
When I got my E55, I traded in my 02 Z06 with 7,000 miles (and $4,000 in performance work). At that time, values were at their lowest because the C6 had just been introduced. An 02 Z06 with low mileage is worth today what it was worth in July of 2004. I panicked thinking that the bottom was falling out and I was wrong. Lesson learned.

FWIW, I just bought a used '05 E55. Panoramic sunroof, keyless go, lighting package, wood package, etc etc... 25k miles but in flawless condition, it looks brand new. $65k! Really well optioned and just perfect condition down to the floor mats.
I spent a long time looking. Good deals are out there. If you live in a populated area, be prepared to look elsewhere. It seems like you get marked up to death. Look around online and you'll find your car for under $70k. I was willing to get a car with some miles on it, but I found examples with under 10k miles for well under $70k.
Good luck!

John,
I would be patient and you will find what is right. I was looking for a 3 months and stumbled across my Tectite 04 on ebay in December 05. I waited for the auction to end and then made the MB dealer an offer and they accepted. The car had 16k on it and has everything except parktronic/distronic and sat radio and was able to get it for 65K which in CA is unheard of. The car is immaculate and looked as new once I got it detailed. The car was out of Colorado and shipping to CA was about 600. I think deals are out ther in states where it snows as these cars will sit because most people want either 4matics or suvs to deal with the weather.

05 E55
I know a guy who needs to sell his E55. It's a 05 E55, Silver/Charcoal, 11K miles, Lighting package, Sirus SAT, Rear shade, CD changer, Trunk closer, KeylessGO. He wants $69K for it. Anyone interested? He's taking delivery on an 07 997T in a few weeks. Let me know! (Original sticker was at $87K).
