2009 C63 AMG
Do you guys know about the twin turbo V8 MB is working on? That may actually be a more fitting replacement for the Kompressor V8's. They'll probably charge more for it.

They have announced it for the S class already and is the reason my there is no AMG 63 version of the new S, just the regular 550, 600 and the AMG version of the 600, but no AMG version with a V8.

keep in mind that it probably will have a better torque converter with the new 7sp AMG version...

less torque = but better gearing

more gears= higher trap speed

I say... around town the E55 will kick ***, from a roll E63 will pull away.

with a Stage1 E55, the E63 will loose its advantage until deep 3 digits

The turbo version may be utilized for the SL and other heavier models where the normally aspirated version may be used for the lighter cars ie; CLK, E etc. This info. was given to me by my auto broker so it could be just his speculation.

Went to talk to the sales people at the dealer, and they won't take my deposit on an CLK63 yet. They basically tell me that they have no info on the E or CLK63 yet.

I though the CLK63 was introduced in Geneva, while the E63 should be announced in NY next month?

E63 Amg....

I'm a little concerned now since none of your dealers are accepting deposits on the new engine. Mine has accepted $$$ for a new E63. They seemed all but sure that it was coming and were willing to take the deposit and get me in line. Guess we'll see what happens....

I guess my dealer is a little slow. I'll try calling MB Manhattan and see what they think.

No longer stock '06 E55, A3 3.2 Quattro, LRD4 HSE, R107 280SL
CLK63 is available - Out at Geneva Motor show. No official confirmation yet on E63 but if NY show is in 2 weeks we will see it there.

I am not sure what they are doing here to be honest. If the E55 does not get sports package because its a tourer and not a sports car like the coupe's ... then why go to E63? E55 is great package for tourer. Only reason for me why they are going to 63 is so they can fit the 7 speed tranny.

Personally I think we get the E63, but with no sports pack. CLS will remain the only "sports back sedan/coupe".

Which kind of makes the engine change a little pointless to me. Remember this 6.3 is an AMG only engine so I think they will want it in as many cars as possible. But if you look at the pecking order the S65 has v12 biturbo (f/i), the SL AMG has f/i in both variants. So seems the 63 is the sibling at mom.

Also AMG have never brought out a newer model that was lower in power than the outgoing model... but this is not to say they wont ever.

I actually think the E63 will be more or less there in the quarter, better traction / gearing will mean maybe more usable torque than the 55 ... but we will never see sub 11 seconds from an E63 ... even with drag radials & giggle juice in IMHO.

Mid accel will be better with 7speed tranny... but top end more or less same ... think top speed is moot point anyway, as we maybe get there once in a cars life - if ever.

But in end of day I dont think E63 will be as enjoyable to drive as the E55's massive torque.... so I say ... DONT DO IT !!

Rgds Steve.

2003 E55 & 2014 GL550
Benz always does the "y is now 12% faster/better than x model" so expect lots of that spin. Otherwise a tick faster in 0-60 with trick gearing/tranny etc.... but no super fireworks til W212 in 2008 (09) model.

Just my humble.

Topaz Blue M3.....to upcoming E63
Just a bit of an observation on my part.....

Seems many are taking sides E55 vs E63 and debating which will be better/faster etc. Not very familiar w/ MB and their cars (have an M3 and have never owned an AMG) but seems that they are remaining very tight-lipped about the performance and attributes of the new 63's. More than likely a marketing ploy to get people talking and excited (which they certainly have done...ala E60 M5). While I agree that it would certainly be a dissapointment to have M5 type issues, that car holds it's own and eventually (slowly) pulls from the E55 at high speeds. Having a NA engine in the M3/M5 is not nearly as bad as you guys think. Spinning up the motor takes no time and holding a gear provides great acceleration.

I drove a brand new CLS55 4 days ago and gently put my foot into it and the acceleration was great. Believe me, I see what you guys are talking about w/ low end torgue and SC. I'm sure everyone knows that the ZO6's are NA and are as fast as ****. Porsche uses NA in its 997CS. Granted these cars are lighter and derive much of their speed from that fact, however, the actual pull from these engines can't be denied. Some mags have gotten 3.8-3.9 for either of these engines (I know, I know...testing varies...etc...etc...etc)

I for one am excited about the E63. I would gladly take similar low end speed and slightly better high end speed, w/ slightly better gas mileage any day. Not to mention that the prospect of 7-spd promises the right gear for just about any situation - cruisin' or bruisin'. I know the debates will continue but I for one, hope the E63 is as good, if not a little better, than the E55 for the reasons stated here and elsewhere on the forum.

Just MHO...

Hopefully, AMG would be able to figure out the 7 speed transmission, because according to the owners of E500 and E350, their cars have a hard time deciding which gear to go with while downshifting.

I think you all should go to the AMG Center and check out the numbers on the ML63 0-1000m time. After you look at that then go to the E55 0-1000m time and you will see that they are .10 apart. If the ML 63 can run those types of numbers then I would say that the E63 will be slightly quicker and faster than the E55. Those numbers are only estimates but it is what it is.

I was told the same..the only buildable 63 in NetStar? was the ML63.

AMG seems to have successfully adapted the 7-spd for their cars. The SLK55 is no slouch and from what I can tell from the forums, most guys seem to be happy w/ its implementation. I keep looking for ML63 info but these numbers are hard to find. Anyway, will keep looking forward to the E63 debut next month.

Is it me or is the CLS55 too cramped inside? I know that it is a more spacious car than the M3 in terms of length and back seat space but the front '****pit' seems more confined than my M. Too many blindspots. Maybe I'm just a little claustrophobic. Need I explain why I am waiting on the E63?

Agree regarding the CLS being a little cramped, E-class all the way.
