Hey guys, I have a problem with the outside temperature gauge sensor. Right now, and almost always, it is stuck at reading -36 degrees. I was told from one mechanic that it could be the temperature sensor located in the bumper, or maybe the wiring to it. I need to know what the correct name for the gauge is so I can look properly online. Can anyone help, or give more info. I greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!
Gregg

The correct name is "outside temperature sensor", located in the front bumper behind the pull off panel next to the fog lights . It is a small probe about 1/3" dia x 2"long and should unplug from it's wire. Check the contacts at the plug as corrosion could cause the symptoms you describe. If cleaning does not cure the fault replace the sensor, it should not be very expensive ,but you never know being a Mercedes !!

On a BMW, the sensor is located in the splash panel under the front right of the car. When you hit a dip and it gets 'ripped off' of the car, the dash displays a -40 reading which is how you know its gone.
Not that yours is missing entirely, but if it is broken, mb may give the same reading. hope this gives a bit of insight.
