Saturday Night is looking like its going to be real sweeeeet with a cold front moving through South Florida - Temps are going to be in the high 50s to low 60's on Saturday night. This could be our last cool day in South Florida for the drag strip until the fall.

I will definitely be there getting in my first run with the CLS - got to see if the LSD makes any difference - gotta set a baseline. 12.169 @115.5 mph was the best I could do with the E55. (with an awesome 1.786 60ft)

Really hoping that there will be a bunch more of you guys out there as well. Let me know who is coming.

Looking forward to seeing the "sports sofa" in action - their performance belies their size and weight - had a blast in one of them at the AMG challenge at Road America - could not beleive that I was in an "S".

and you are absolutely right about the temps - this could be the last cold track night for at least 7-8 months.

I haven't raced at Moroso since I took my 00' Ford Lightning up there (hence the username). That was a blast! I had just started the mods on the Lightning and ran a 13.3 and was all proud of it! Looking at everyone's times here on the boards that seems slow now....

For Saturday, I'll be happy not to smoke the tires out of the hole and pull anything faster than a 13.3 with my luxo-barge. I just tried my first dyno-mode drive tonight and the launch reminds me alot of the blown Lightning...gotta squeeze the gas on easy or the tires go up in smoke as the boost builds. Still seems like an amazing amount of power for such a conservative-looking car. I'm sure the E55's have to be incredible with the lighter weight!

"Luxo barge" or "sports sofa" - eitherway that machine hauls no question - try and get their earlier - with it being midnight madness and the cool weather its going to be well attended for sure.

But here is the good news - the weather forecast is getting better and better

That was a great writeup on the link. What do you think about launching in dyno-mode? Do you think just having the ESP off would be better or is there really no significant difference?

I'm going to try and get there a bit earlier but I may have to wait for a friend of mine that's coming too. We are going to try and get some good video's of some runs.

 

Excellent guys. I will try to make it. Just got rid of the e55 and I am expecting the cls55 with the 030 package on sat morning, I can's sleep! If the car arrives I will go to moroso.

ESP off is sufficient - I am not sure that dyno mode will give you anything extra - plus going to Dyno mode will switch off the ABS as well - which under normal circumstances on the 1/4mile is no big deal at all - but in the unlikely event of an emergency with someone or something crossing lanes, it might be nice to know you can get it stopped in a BIG hurry and in a straight line.

PTE - sorry to say this but Midnight madness is Saturday night - ie tomorrow - the night that gets really cool - like the last time we were there and freezing. So turn your car around and come on up tomorrow night and lets have some fun again

It pay's to reread the whole thread. I'v been working on my car (The Garage looks like a auto shop class,Parts everywhere). Work after the Miami Boat show has been WILD. That's a good thing!! Rflow ,I'm working on a lower temp thermostate. . if you are intersted , go this morning get a new replacement from the MB dealer. Just $21.00. get it to me tonight . I'll definetly be there tonight. Going with a buddy of mine who is bringing his Stang for his virgin track run at Moroso! We'll bring a video camera, but I'm not sure who is going to want to stand by the fence to tape in this weather (ok..it isn't that cold, but we are from Miami...haha).

 

Do you guys ever go by the Tower Shops show on Friday nights? There are tons of cars there of every variety...we need to start a Mercedes AMG line-up...

 

we had 18 vipers at towers last night.... I was late and brought the E55.....

You can tell by the slow reply that it wasnt good for me - I normally jump on the board to post when it goes well

Ran my new CLS55 - first time at strip - only 1500 miles. Conditions were awesome as predicted - temps started in the mid 60's at 6pm, but by midnight were in the low 50's - and might have even dropped into the 40's. No wind at all. HUGE turnout (as expected) and by the end of the evening it would take oven an hour between runs. Early on it was good and I got in three runs before the big crowds arrived. Did a total off 6 runs.

Red00light was there with his luxobarge s55 - saw one of his runs in the 13's.
NosonyxM5 from the M5board was there and I saw him nail a very respectable 12.5 - I think he was trapping 114-115mph.
Other than that RFlow306 and PTE were there as spectators

With regards to my dismal efforts .......

With the 19" wheels wasnt sure of pressures to run - so had the fronts at 50 and the rears at 28psi. Unlike my E55 - I could not get the CLS to do a burnout with ESP off - it would just shut the motor down - never had that issue at all with my E - I was always able to light em up with ease - do a solid burnout and warm up the tires for as long as I liked. At first I tought it was the LSD but then quickly realised that it was the ESP cutting in and retarding the motor.

So the first two runs of the night were with cold tires and I was one of the first guys down the track - it was pretty slick to start off.

Run #1 - spun off the line and was sideways to 1/8 and had to let off. Total lame run
14.684 - 109.1mph - 2.371 60ft

Run # 2 - Couldnt warm up tires again - spun off the line and then hooked -
12.738 - 112.85 mph - 2.149 60ft

Run # 3 - Switched to Dyno mode so I could do the burnout - did a solid burnout and had a much better launch
12.654 - 111.82 mph - 2.049 60ft

Run # 4 - Dyno mode again - solid burnout - cautious but better launch - felt more like what I was used to with the E
12.509 - 111.99mph - 1.912 60ft - this proved to be the best run of the night

Run # 5 - Dyno mode - weak burnout - got too greedy and spun off the line
12.723 - 114.12 mph - 2.181 60ft

Run # 6 - Another bad launch - no idea of times as teh track printer screwed up, and I headed home to find a tall building to jump off!!!!!

Totally depressed - went there with high expectations and had them dashed - maybe car is still tight with only 1500mi - my best runs on the E were at 9000 milesHave a lot to learn - this car is different from my E - I need to learn how to launch it - and need to figure out how to get the 19"s to grip. So its back to the drawing board for me

 

Boy I feel better I couldn't get my CLS to do burnouts either with or without ESP. I though it was me. But this car is very hard to launch. Now imagine from 469bhp to 625bhp. It something we need wot work on. I also have LSD with the stock 19 inch rims and stock rubber with about 10K on them.

Your time are not bad for stock, I thought these cars stock do about 12.5?

I feel with more practice we will get better times soon. Good Luck and keep us updated on your progess.

not bad at all.... midnight madness is tough... the track isn't prepped that well, so launching is hard..... the 114MPH trap show that you'll do low 12's with a good launch..... cold weather is bad for traction, but good for power...

 

Siswati you are too hard on yourself. I can assure you that the car will only get faster the more miles you put on it. So keep driving the wheels off that beautiful machine.


Fikse, I think it's time for another track rental. Lets get the ball moving before the 95 degree weather gets here.
