Unhappy

Well it appears from the responses here and in the W211 section it's about a 50/50 chance the roof will rattle/creak or be silient like it should. Since I despise rattles, sqeaks and or creaks I'm beginning to wonder if this option is really for me

My 06 has no issue at all and I have the car for almost 2 weeks now.

Mine does squeak, but not always...normally on cold days when I think the seal/gasket around the edge is hard. Otherwise, I too like the look and appearance.

Zero noise so far, but 650 miles so it remains to be seen.

I have 2 problems, already sent to one dealer without resolution. First is a noticeable stumble from a stop or low speed and a large delay and rough engagement of drive after backing out of the garage, especially noticeable when cold as detailed in the TSB thread. I'll bring this up again when it goes to FJ for it's first service. Overall, the car is all I liked about the '02 but more. Just need the voice activation added like the old car had and it'll be "there". The blown '02 might have been just a touch faster, and it kills me to admit this, but the '06 is

Yikes, that doesn't sound so good .
I know with my 500 after I put the car in drive from reverse I always wait an extra 2-3 seocnd to let the trans fully engage into drive before driving off (seems to be an MB thing as I did it with all my MB's). Is the stumble only when cold?

Wow 1000 watts, are you sure you can still even hear if the roof creaks? LOL

None of my previous MB's had such a delay or rough engagement of drive, cold or warm. It's much worse cold, but still seems to be a little slow to engage drive after a complete warm up. As for the stumble or hesitation, it's ALWAYS present, so it shouldn't be too tough for them to at least acknowledge it. Problem at Silver Star was A: I didn't buy the car there. and B: There are no codes so everything must be fine. It's a hesitation VERY similar to the stumble I had getting the blower sorted on the '02. Nothing major, but a little ridiculous for a 100k car.

Did you happen to notice any of this on your test drive?

I also have the creak in the pano roof when going over uneven surfaces. The creak started about 1 year after purchase. Currently have 37K miles on the car. 2 1/2 years of ownership and still love driving this car. On going issue with TPM malfunction. Only major problem, after a few months of ownership, air suspension malfunction, repaired under warrenty.

04 e55 tectite, every option but phone and disctronic cruise

Unfortunately, I drove a couple, but not this car. It came down to a decision between a grey one with slightly less options I was going to get because it was the same (rare) color as the '02, but this car was picked at the last second because it was black and had a couple more options for essentially the same price. Being brand new with 8 miles on it apparently doesn't make not test driving it a very smart move on my part. Hopefully FJ is a little more responsive when it goes in for it's first service.

If you haven't already get to know the shop foreman when you bring it in, he's the guy that the techs go to for advice. Mine is supposed to now come in mid mext week and I'm going to really test this thing. After hearing about all the pano roof creaks/rattles/squeaks I'm thinking I really may be better off without it

Sorry to hear you need a new pano roof, but I"m glad MB is stepping up and replacing it. Hopefully the new one will be quiet; make sure and have them test it unde the same conditions you have the issue with before releasing the car back to you.

two moonroofs

Is there a difference between the pano roof and the dual front and rear sunroof option. I'm looking to get an '03 E55 and it has what looks like a pano roof from the outside (black rooftop) but from the inside its not one large peice of glass but rather two individual moonroofs. are the pano roofs you guys are referring to a large uninterrupted peice of glass that runs from the front to the rear of the car or is it two moonroofs like i mentioned? is this just what the 2003 pano roofs look like and they're now updated or is this just not a pano roof althogethr?

Two moon roof's, front one openes and rear does not, but it gives the appearance it's all one piece of glass.

Also, both shades have to fully open before the front glass can be tilted up or slid open. Not necessarily a big deal, but I miss being able to close the shade (by hand) with the roof tilted open. Otherwise, no noise, no complaints.
