Best Summer Tires?

I'm debating getting a new set of rear wheels for better traction for summer use. I want to improve drag times mostly, and don't mind more grip for my jack-rabbit starts on the street.

The stock Contis are pretty good, and I'm not sure I can do a whole lot better. I tried to buy some drag radials (see http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....FA+Drag+Radial) but these are out of stock and no word on when they will be back in stock. I'm looking at some other more street oriented tires, such as the Toyo "Proxes". My main concern is that I don't want to spend $1400 on new (OEM rear) wheels and tires to get a barely perceptible difference.

Whatcha Think?

Drag radials will be the biggest bang for the buck and the best straight line traction. Just because Tire Rack is out of stock, that doesn't mean you're SOL. Check with your local speed shops and tire shops. I bought my last set of drag radials locally.

You'll spend more because of mounting/balancing, but at least you'll have your tires.

EDIT - Discount Tire Direct sells BFG DRs, too - http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...tp=Competition

I highly recommend Discount Tire Direct also! I like them ALOT better than Tire Rack.

Also, Discount Tire Direct has free shipping!

Toyo RA1's! Check out my 60' times at the track. It's not a true drag radial but it is an R compound tire. It hooks almost as good as a dr and is more reliable on the street.

That is true, you could also try Bridgestone Potenza RE050 A or Michelin Pilot Sport PS2,although the Michelin is primarily a dry weather tire and not as good as the other two in wet. Regarding the Pirelli, make sure you are getting the summer tire version of the Zero Nero, as ther is a M&S all season version for the North American market, which you probably do not want.

RA1s would be bad@$$ tires to roll around the street. But unless you want to replace tires often....the wear and tear is extreme on r compound tires. The best balance on the street in my opinion would probably be ps2s for overall......if you're going for ***** out dry traction then I highly recommend bfgoodridge KD....in my opinion no other street tire compares when it comes ot all summer tire.

P-Zero Corsa?

What about these Pirelli P-Zero Corsa? They are a road race tire, but sure look a lot like a drag radial.

Thanks for all the advice so far. I am looking into the Toyo RA1 as well.
