Euro Comand Retrofit Void MB Warranty?
I was thinking about having Steve install a Euro Comand on my '03 E55. Since the '03's did not come with the NAV option would I be voiding my warranty to have it retrofitted in my car? I have heard that doing this will also provoke a lot of electrical problems so I do not want to get myself into something that's going to incur a bunch of electrical issues then on top of it not have the repairs covered under warranty.

Obviously a concern but I doubt it... MB would have to show that it caused the problem and it's not as if the Euro Comand is some foreign aftermarket part.
I just dropped off my SL55 at FJ MB in Newport beach this morning for service... first time leaving it with them with the Euro Comand (Steve installed it 2 weeks ago)... so I'll see if they say anything when I pick it up this evening.

My folks had an early build 03 E500. They purchased the car with nav, but availability was delayed initially. They were promised a nav retrofit in a few months. It turned out that MB was unable to do this for some reason, so they replaced the car for them. Apparently this was a huge campaign for all the 03 E's that were ordered with nav. Mid year build 03s came with nav from the factory, along with a few hundred other mid-year production changes according to the dealer. I noticed the brakes felt very different from the 12/02 build to the 06/03 build.
I guess if your car is mid-year 03, you might be alright. What's Steve's take on it?

David, I had Steve install the euro command and rear screen on my 03 E55 and have not had any issues, albeit I do not have the navigation, we use it for DVD's. I have had 2 services on the car since installation with no issues, including the 3 most recent recall's and software updates.

I had Steve install US Comand as well as Sirius with hidden antenna in my 03. No problems with warranty issues at the dealer...they even updated the nav software for me.

Thats good news.
I'm really shocked MBNA decided to replace all those E-Classes just for the nav option. Maybe it's something with the US version of COMAND and adding it after the vehicle was built. It sure cost them alot of money.

Great! That puts a lot of my concerns to rest, thanks guys. For those of you who went with the Euro version, how do you like the DVD option? Is it pretty clear and were any of you able to read DVD-R's? I'm asking because the DVD feature would be the main reason I went for the Euro rather than US version. Also what did it cost you guys +install?
