E63 V8 Vs M5 V10
the beauty of the E55 is, supercharged w/ gobs of torque. M5 is entirely different concept, it makes more hp by high revving and better 7 speed gearing.
now the E63 forgo force induction, and going the N/A route like the M cars, its not gonna beat M5 at its own game.
its got 8 cyl while M5 has 10.
it revs at 1000rpm lower than M5.
it has 7 speed auto while M5 has 7 speed squential.
its not gonna beat the handling of m cars thats already a given.
thus imo, the E63 lost the competive edge that E55 has against the M5.

The new E63 with its torque reduction sounds like a real letdown. Perhaps when I'm ready to hand back my 2006 E55 I will get back into an M5 but only if its then available with a manual transmission.
IMHO BMW design team has their taste in their A$$ lately. Not happy at all with the exterior rear of the 5 series in general or the idrive concepts. And the fact that the M5 jumped to 94K properly loaded with a monthly lease payment in the neighborhood of $1800 was the final straw in landing me back into a Benz showroom. I am not the least disappointed with that decision. It seems that there are a lot of M5's in showrooms and ebay that are not selling. Seems like I am not the only previous M5 owner that isn't overly impressed with the new version of the previous best sports sedan on the planet.

Once you got the car all set up it was incredible to drive, don't get me wrong, but it felt like you were working a playstation controller just to get started. I'm not a big fan of too much electronic wizardry in cars <more expensive things to break, and more often>, and I would shudder to think of the repair costs once this car's out of warranty.

For the best of both worlds, keep the E55 and save up for a Porsche.
i would say that we should hold off declaring a winner until we get some numbers from published magazines.
However if you have a 55k motor, you have a valid argument to say that in street driving... 512lbs torque will be hard to beat.
e63 will sell at list.
so from bang for buck pt of view, i'd go e55.
