Is it just me???

As much as I love my E55 when I was at the dealership yesterday there was a new CLS 55 Silver/Char in the showroom; damn it looked sexy and I love the rear lip spoiler! It's weird, sometimes I see CLS's on the road and they just look too long from certain angles and on other days like yesterday the car looked 10x's hotter than the E55. I'm really glad I got the pano roof with a light color as it really helps give the car a sportier look and it's something the CLS's don't have. I also prefer the interior of the E55 over the CLS, the E's dash just seems perfect in its design execution.

I agree the CLS somtimes looks great! But prefer the E, soo sexy. Besides the CLS dash is way to much (fugly wood) you would have to look at that all the time while driving.
Happy with my E55.

I've had both and agree. I didn't like the excessive attention the CLS got but then it was very fresh last march. I went back with the E as I like the seat better and the door height better as I like to put my arm out when driving. I also like having a framed window a little better. I also found the front hood got chips quickly (maybe the ceramic paint) the sunroof had some significant wind noise when open on the highway. I did like the CLS 19's over the E's 18's, the leather dash and glossy wood slab. For me the E is more comfortable with similar performance

Is the CLS55 faster than the E55?

All things being equal, I would buy a CLS55 over and E55, but two things aren't equal in my case:

1) The Cost: the MSRP is a little higher, but more meaningfully, the discounting and the incentives aren't there...so the net realized cost is significantly higher.

2) The Statement: the CLS is WOW looking, while the E55 is WOW inside, and OK looking, IMO. This understatement works better for me at this time.

So, I go WOW over My E55...and I am thilled with my selection.

The dealership was/is trying to get me to ditch my 2005 E55 lease in favor of a new 2006 CLS55 lease, so I gave the car a good hard look on Thursday. I found the interior to be pretty much the same as the E55. It does look like a bigger car (it's about 4" longer) but shouldn't it?

I'm giving it a good long look. The new E will probably be out in 2008 as a 2009 model. The CLS is still pretty fresh in the looks book.

Not to irritate any CLS owners -- who are free to ridicule my E55 wagon -- but I think the CLS looks worse the more familiar it gets. I could be 100% wrong, but IMHO this design will not age well. It just strikes me as different purely for the sake of being different; personally I like the Jaguar ad slogan "nothing trumps beautiful". The Germans seem obsessed by coming up with new designs that are distinctive, but not beautiful...

IMO...the CLS is beautiful but it needs to be in a light color...dark colors wash out the arched F to R side body line...especially black.

I agree with your sentiment, and not just because I've got a wagon too. The great angle on the CLS is when you're just behind one, one lane over. The whole thing comes together then...

But I don't think it looks nearly as good from other angles, and the interior is criminally cramped for a car that's as large as that on the outside. It'll look hopelessly dated in a few years.

The dated "zinger style for style's sake" looks and cramped interior brought this idea to mind: perhaps MB hired the GM guys responsible for the 80's/early 90's corvettes to design the CLS?
