Where's the Beef: Ventilated Seats?

Is it me, or is the ventilation provided by the ventilated seats nominal to the point of ineffective and not noticable, or barely noticable?

Remember that the ventilated seats only blow air that is the same temperature as the air in the cabin. If the AC is blowing and the cabin is cool you will feel the seats working, but if the AC isn't on the effect is nominal. If you wear a suit in warm weather and have the AC on you will definitely notice the seats working.

Thats true but here in PR it makes a huge difference especially when the windows are down!

It only helps you not to sweat too much in hot weather. It's not A/C seats.

When I have mine on and its really hot outside I feel like my back is getting wet but it is just the cooling system doing it's work. It is a great option for hot weather. I have noticed it even works with the A/C off and it keeps working only in the seat area.

I had them in my M45, and they were cooled and ventilated.... they worked really well.... I was in an E class with the ventilated seats, and couldn't even tell they were on....

I heard or read somewhere that the main benefit is to the skirt-wearing public in the summertime; the ventilated seats help avoid the appearance of a wet crack, which is pretty quick to show up in light fabrics.

I would say they are barely noticeable. They do work, but not nearly as well as the ones in the Lexus that I traded in on my E55, The Lexus seats blow cold air. That was the only thing about that car that I preferred over any MB.

Complete waste of money IMHO. It would be the first option I'd send back.

It's a great concept, and shouldn't be too hard to perfect. Too bad MB hasn't gotten it right.

PS, what ever happened to the ventilated car that cools itself while parked with sun activated solar panels?

From one Bosox fan to another, that's EXACTLY what I was woindering about as well. Now THAT sounded like a option that would be worth it... I use the "REST" feature in my SL all the time which keeps the car cool in the summer and warm in the winter (for a limited time).

Aw heck, who am I kidding. I live in SoCal my cars temperature is always just right.

Would you refresh my memory of what the "rest" feature is? Is that where you run the heat or a/c with the car turned off??

My SL is only a few weeks old. It has so many features/options that I only work on a feature or two each week. This week's feature has been the shiftronic. What fun THAT has been!

Funny that this thread started started today...I've been wondering the same thing about my ventilated seats. I seriously thought mine were defective and I was thinking about contacting my service rep tomorrow. I can feel some difference, but I expected better cooling as it is getting hotter here. Why can't they route a little A/C into the seats? Guess I am not alone with my thoughts of this feature.

I have not tried using my ventilated seats, yet. My car is new and the weather is just turning warm, so I haven't had the need to use them. My son turned the passenger seat ventilation on this weekend while he was in my car and he said, "Wow!" I put my hand on his seat and I could feel the air moving around the seat top. The test will really come on a hot day, which should be soon, since Spring is here!

You got what you paid for...ventilated seats. The option package doesn’t say anything about any ventilation for you.

Am I really gonna have to try them with one of the wifeeey's skirts on?
They don't even fit me.

I use it in the winter with the vent and the heat on at the same time.

Yes, it keeps the car at the current temperature after you exit the vehicle. Great for the short stretches when you need to run in and out of a store or something.
