Won't Start?
Won't Start?
I'm storing my E55 with a friend in Maryland until I move out there in a month. He called me today and said that when he went to start it, it wouldn't turn over. According to him, the dash lights, etc. come on but it won't turn over. I noticed right before I left that the "service due" light came on and the "check engine" had come on as well. Any ideas? I won't be able to get to the car for another 3 weeks...
If it's been sitting for a while, it's probably the battery. There's enough current flow to power the dash lights, but not enough to crank the starter. To verify, put a voltmeter across the battery terminals - it'll probably read 12 volts. Now, with the voltmeter still in place, try to crank the starter. If the voltage drops off significantly, the battery is down on charge. Recharging may resurrect it.
According to my service rep there are 2 batteries, one for starting and the one in the rear for everything else. The starting battery may be dead and the other ok. This was news to me but that's what she said.

My car had the same problem, had it towed by MB, the fuel pump died, it being replaced. I have been told that this not that uncommon on AMG supercharged cars.
