OT 997TT 11.4 1/4 mile
Just read the latest Motortrend. 997TT does a 3.2 sec 0-60, 1/4 mi in 11.4 at 120.5 mph. That was with the tiptronic which is supposedly faster than the 6spd man. Test conditions were cold, but damn!!!!

Yes I read that too, and then REREAD it. 0-60 in 3.2?? You basically have to get a 1.5-1.6 60 foot at that HP and torue to get a 3.2. Thats better than the Porsche GT and Enzo or the same.
I think that car looks GREAT. I would not mind getting it. No turbo lag, amazing. I think on the highway that car gets beat by a C6Z but what doesn't?

it will be quick, but those numbers are not real drag strip numbers.... they were done via a gforce type thing with the laptop as per the last couple paragraphs of the article....

No doubt this will be an amazing pcar. However, the numbers just don't add up. Several 996tt's with over 600hp can't get under 11.5.
The new turbo will be difficult to tune with the variable vane turbos. Also, it seems that the flow rate of the new turbos are pretty close to their max psi delivery. The simple chip mod will be no more on this car.

Variable vane turbos have a bad habit of creating a lot of pre-turbo exhaust back pressure as well. No doubt the tuners will have to deal with that. VVTs are the only turbos I've ever seen that will make MORE backressure than boost and it usually gets worse the higher the boost goes.

Will also be easy to launch and drive in town with the tiptronic setup....which is actually quicker than stick.
One day I will have one of these turbo's....

That would allow more early acceleration from a dead stop similar to our E55's. The Carrera GT is within a tick in the 1/4 mile but has a 130mph trap speed. The 997tt must just leap ahead until the 1/4 mile marker and then the GT runs away. Still extremely impressive for 1/4 the price.
The 996's I mentioned were on drag radials, still nothing under 11.5. There are only 3-4 996 turbos in the low 10's & 11's with +700hp.

Just wait and see.... I am a bit skeptical also w/ 11.4... seems to good to be true... but well, it's not impossible... no one has ever tried it yet, right? Could be a totally different animal. Who knows... let's just give 997TT a benefit of the doubt.
I agree... (at least for me ). P-car is quite tough to master.... somehow my body doesn't sync very well w/ the clutch and shifter.... I could only get 14's w/ an '02 C4S... or 1 second slower than on paper... So tip will definitely be more user friendly and easier to get as fast as numbers on papers.

I think tip is more user friendly and removes human's factor.... if one could shift fast, manual should logically be faster.
For avg. driver (me especially), tip will make the car faster...

The 997 Tip will be faster since you can load boost. On my old 6-speed Supra I could load up 7-9 psi out of the gate and pull 1.6 - 1.7 60 foots with the 2 step. Without it maybe a 1.9-2.0.
There are several stock turbo supras running 11.1-11.5@118 or so with boost loading and stall converters netting 1.45-1.6 60-foots with only 425 rwhp/rwtq

SL 65 AMG and E63s AMG
Hype. I'll believe it when I see it. My friend that has a 996tt x50 is number one on the list for a new 997TT Tip. I'll let yall know how bad my stock E55 loses. (if it does, Ha Ha)
