Visions of Beauty - Rotors
I just received my EvoSport grooved rotors. Here are some pictures.
Weighed on a UPS scale rounding to the nearest 0.2 of a pound the fronts are 14.0 pounds each and the rears are 23.6 pounds each. They will be installed next week with Padig pads, steel brake lines and racing fluid.
(Correction: fronts weigh 23.6 pounds each and rears are 14.0 pounds each)

Nice! I can't wait to see what those slotted rotors look like on the car. I opted for the cross-drilled rotos and they are scheduled to arrive this Friday... I will be installing them on Monday.

No longer stock '06 E55, A3 3.2 Quattro, LRD4 HSE, R107 280SL
I am also looking at getting some ... they are the proverbial nuts... E55's are prone to have brake vibration due to low tolerances on the fixed discs. Floaters hsould have been standard.
Question is slotted or cross drilled ???!!!!
Also how much of a weight saving are these over stock ? Evo say 39lb total ... is this the case?

If you want to save a few $$$ Vivid Racing (a site sponsor) sells them for $1899.00

[QUOTE=Rafal]Are you sure??? The fronts are bigger than the rears so how come the rears weigh twice as much...[/QUOTE
My mistake, the fronts are 23.6 pounds and the rears are 14.0 pounds. Thanks for catching that.

I chose slotted over crossed drilled for performance reasons. Without a doubt the cross drilled are much better looking. Especially the new drill pattern on the EvoSport rotors over the stock. The slotted will have more braking surface and metal to absorb heat. They also won't require cleaning the holes out regularly as on cross drilled when they clog up with brake dust. And finally they won't crack hole to hole from the intense heat cycling during a track event.
In short, they should provide better braking, cool better and last longer than cross drilled but they won't look as good. I figured I would sacrifice looks for better performance, safety and to protect a $100,000.00 at the track.

I spoke with 300 Below and EvoSport about cyro treatment and the two piece floating construction. Neither is sure about the different contraction rates and any potential problems with ding it. EvoSport has never treated the two piece, only the one piece cast.
Any input from anyone? I don't want to destroy the rotors and EvoSport said they can't back them if there is damage from cryo treatment.

the reason to do it is much longer rotor and pad life as well as better braking performance. Call 300 below and ask them if they have done other floating rotors, it shouldn't be an issue cryo treatment does not significantly alter the dimensions of the parts only the internal structure on a microscopic level. They treat all kinds of engine parts with great results but the engines do have to be disassembled. I guess is they have to be taken apart it will be to much trouble but if they can do them as is then why not. There a many motorcycle and racing rotors that are two piece I can't imagine no one has done this before.

Dan,
Don't do it! Evosport didn't do it before selling them, and with something like brakes I wouldn't mess around.
God forbit you have a problem with the brakes afterward, Evosport will not warranty them. Leave them alone and have piece of mind.

The rotors are on their way to be cryo treated. EvoSport said they should be fine. 300 Below said their motor sport guy says no problem and their metallurgist says no problem.
I should be seeing a 50% wear resistance increase according to everyone as well as longer pad life and a little better braking.
I appreciate everyone’s input and thank for the concern. It seems there should be no problems with doing the treatment.
