Has anyone heard of this?

MB has taken my car in for an electrical fault causing my trunk not to open.
The fault was diagnosed at my workplace and then they took the car in. While talking to the technician i spoke to him about power loss after sustained hard driving (i knew fully well what the cause was but wanted his take on this). His response was that Mb and AMG are fully aware that the i/c pump and relay are a direct cause of this and that he will order me an upgraded pump and relay that improves this condition and he will have it intsalled while the car is with them. The parts and labour are fully covered under the warranty. I then asked him why Mb does not call all cars back and replace these pumps, his reply was that they will only attend to it when a customer complains about it as most customers don't even notice this issue.
When i get more details, part nos. etc i will post it here.

Yes please do ! Also ask him if this has been rectified in newer models ? e.g. 06's?

Hi Steve, I see you have tv f&r, do you know if the rear can be added on as a retrofit? I'd really like to have that fitted.

Well to be honest sorry I did this ... better to have after market screens in head rests.

The frame rattles (although seems to have settled a bit now), and the picture quality is much worse than a PSP. But most importantly it really interferes with the front cabin access to rear cabin ... very annoying if you have a kid in the back.

I think a retrofit is quite a palava - and will be pretty pricy from MB I think, try after market. Do you have the Command + TV in front ?

Steve-my model does have command+tv, is it possible to hook up the signal to 2 screens in the headrest, (aftermarket ones)?

M5 RUS, i just complained of loss of power after sustained wot blasts, they seemed to know about that problem.

I cannot see why not - there is a crowd here in UK ... who do this stuff - real nice job in the head rests , but they charge $$$. Two options in head rest or flip down from roof. Roof option is easier fit, but obscures rear view mirror ...

Ill be back with the co's details ... mbe they know a crowd down there who does it as well...

I did the same thing about 3 weeks ago. Car lost power after about 3 hard pulls. Dealer said MB knew about and would change the IC pump.

It seems to me that MB will only change it if you complain about it.

SO COMPLAIN

I just took the car (04 E55) in today for an alignment and service "C" and I was told that there were actually FIVE ACTIVE RECALLS on the E. Besides the only one I knew (the brakes), there was also an active recall for something with the supercharger (I'm assuming the IC pump, although it didn't say that specifically and no I dont remember exactly what it said), the alternator (probably related to the problems the SLR's were having during the Gumball), something with the front axle or suspension, and some sort of electronics issues. I know this is really vague and I apologize but you should all ask your service advisors to run a check for these recalls. Apparently they're not telling us everything...

Hi, the part number on the upgrade pump is: A0005000186. The technician did confirm that the number is different from the original part.

Perfect steve. Let us know the part on yours and your build date (please). Mine is an '06 as well and I wonder how many of these "fixes" it is due for. I was planning on an EvO cooling upgrade, but may consider factory if it is there for now.

Honestly I must say that since I have had the recalls done and the IC pump replaced I have not had a Supercharger shutoff since. Also the car feels way more stable as far as the HP goes.

The pump model on my 2006 is as per the one listed above. The BOSCH part number is PCA 12V 0392 022 003 and is listed below... this looks like the stock 'original' water pump made by Bosch.... but there are two variants.

The one fitted to my '06...
http://www.boschmotorsandcontrols.co...2003/index.htm

And then there is also this BOSCH model which looks somewhat less robust although has same basic specification, but the full performance curve is substantially worse than the 003 model.

http://www.boschmotorsandcontrols.co...2002/index.htm

I think my car was a Sept build, the spec was finalised towards end of July '05.

I am off to France over the w/e so I should have some opportunity to give it some welly on the trip.

I never really noticed an issue with mine, but I am going to have the dealer swap it out when I bring my car in for the latest (brake) recall notice. That I don't have a problem now does not mean that the part won't fail during the summer. I have heard that 1 of every 5 OEM pumps is defective. Don't know if that is true, but sure is troublesome.

so i'm not sure i understand.... do the newer cars have the newer pump? or is the newer pump just a replacement if a car has a problem?
