Advice lowering my w211 E55....

Few people lowered there cars via spacers - Few people lowered using a module... If spacers works (safe and cheap) why would anyone spend $1500 or more using a module?

Spacers are rediculous and $1500 modules a huge waste of money. Just go to the dealer and have them reprogram the air suspension to have the car sit lower. They should charge you about 2 hours labor. You can do it from factory height to the bump stops.

I bought some washers from wal mart. I put them on as described. Worked fine. Didn't want to lower the rear, just the front a little. I like it. Have gone about 15k with it. Dealer doesn't notice.

Paying money for something that costs $.99 is ridiculous. Maybe money doesn't matter to you, but i worked hard for mine.

I suggest you do a search and you shall find all the instructions you need. This is a very, very old topic. Good luck, there is nothing to it.

So those people who spend 1.5-2k on the module didnt get any more benefits then those who spend less then a $100...

I would lean towards agreeing with that. In fact, the opposite may be true, due to the fact that lowering with the computer is still keeping factory parameters in place, vs splicing into the vehicle harness and "tricking" the computer to a high degree.
I wouldn't do the "washer" method on my own car, but I can't imagine it being less effective than a module either.

There isn't. It is a catch 22. Benz really doesnt want you modifying the car at all, so they are not going to tell you anything. Only a MB tech (that you know) with lots of experience is going to tell you the truth and that is what I tried to share here. The companies that are selling these god awful expensive lowering modules are not going to tell you otherwise either.

I would not want to tool around in a $85k car putting down almost 500hp at speeds well over 100mph (at times) with "stacks of washers" to lower my suspension. That is just me though Talk about style over substance!

Then you must not understand how the car is lowered via washers. The sensor sends a signal to the ecu which determines how much air is in the suspension to raise or lower the car. The washer makes the sensor see that the car is sitting a little higher than it really is, and therefore it lowers the car a little to make it reach the factory setting. By the way, what do you think the $$$$ lowering module is doing? its taking the sensors reading and outputting a higher reading and therefore doing THE SAME EXACT THING.

One could take the position that they wouldn't want to be driving around with someone elses electronics tied into their suspension because while the washers are mechanically altering what the computer is reading, it cannot change and is therefore constant and will not fail whereas if the electronic module were to fail or just have an error, you could have the car rise up or lower down at an inopportune time and therefore more chance of an accident.
