So the Porsche dealer calls me yesterday
And offers me a July production slot for a 997TT. I had put a deposit down maybe 3 weeks ago and was totally surprised. I was not expecting any such call for about 18 months. Looks like I should be taking delivery in August/Sept of an arctic silver/black 6 spd. I had to use the Porsche GB and German configurators to figure my spec out last nite. Though by all reports the tip is significantly faster, the wife wants to feel more connected to the car and make her return to the track.
Here is also some footage of 3 laps of TWS I did in 2004. The first lap is warmup/traffic clearing. Second lap is about a 2:03 (check out how fast the Miata disappears on the left of the straight) while the last lap is a clean 2:00 lap. At the very end I let my friend in a spec Miata pass to learn his Miata line. Speed at the end of the straight for me is about 145-150

BTW the car is an 86 944 turbo with 300+rwhp on a 2700lb chassis

Congrats! Saw your post over on Rennlist (i'm E55AMG over there). I've only had my 997s for a few months and already thinking TT!! Wife would totally freak so I'm probably in this for 2 years - maybe by that time prices and any bugs will be worked out.
I see your looking at GT silver. I have it and like it, but don't know if I would order it. I wanted a car (don't like waiting) and checked inventories and found my car already on a boat. It had the options I wanted without overkill (easy to do on these cars) and happened to be GT silver. It's kind of between arctic and seal.
Did you happen to see some of the pics floating around of the Cobalt blue TT
That thing looks wicked! Not sure if I'd have the guts though. I'm sure I'd chicken out and order silver LOL

No comparison in the acceleration department. The E55 hands down. However, the S is not slow. In the right gear, it pulls very hard. Different kind of quick if that makes sense. So far, the handling, steering feel, braking, etc. are winning me over over the massive amount of HP and torque of the E55. That may change in a year or so, as I tend to get bored pretty quick, but from a pure "driving" experience, there really is no comparison IMHO.
I can't imagine what the TT feels like. The get up and go of the E55 with the handling all in one car.

forgot to ask. Have you driven the Vantage? Beautiful car but will probably be 120K out the door - just not enough performance for that price.

I have gone on no less than 3 test drives. The chassis is excellent - flat, yet surprisingly compliant like the old E39 5 series sport suspension. The fit and details of the interior are impressive, the bodywork gorgeous, and the exhaust note intoxicating. The problem is the ooomph is in the realm of the E46M3. It needs another 70-100 HP. A great looking, intelligent GF that is a dead fish in bed. I imagine the 997TT would be like a night with a pornstar on XTC.

Nice videos looks like you had a blast.
I think the new 997TT is the way to go congratulations and keep us posted. I will be keeping my car for another year or so and will definitely consider buying one. Then again low mileage sl65's are selling at really good prices so i will have to make a decision. My favorite pcar is still the 959 almost a whole 5 to 10 years ahead of its time.
