'03+ E 55 reliability question
Hopefully early next year i'll be either buying an ///M5 ( 02-03 ) or an E 55 ( 03+ ) but i am not too sure about the E 55 reliabilty though ?
I usually like to keep the cars for 5-6 years/100K miles which ever comes first but one thing for sure i just don't have time to go back and forth to the dealer to get things fixed, warrenty or no warrenty.
So how reliable is the newer E55 is and whats the highest trouble free miles have you all seen ?
Thanks

06' E55
I only have 4,000 miles on mine so far and it runs strong. I think it will be tough to find someone with a 03+ that is approacking 100K miles. It seems like there are a lot of recalls for a 90K car though most are minor.

To answer your question........ Yes, the W211 E55 is generally a reliable car with a solid motor and a hardy drive-line. As with any new car model, problems are most likely to be seen in the first one to two years of production (2003 and 2004 for the W211, E55). I have a 2005 with 13,000 miles and the car has been perfect.
Good luck with your search.

C2 Turbo: I have had my 03 W211 E55 for almost 3 years now. There have been a few minor recalls but the reliability has been absolutely great! -0- problems in 3 years, absolutely nothing, NOTHING! I have 26,000 miles and have not had to take my 03 E55 even once to the dealer for a problem. I have taken it in for all the required services as required under warranty. Hope this helps!
If you need more info PM me. BTW, I am getting a 2007 E63 in about 60 days when my E55 lease expires. Good luck in your search!!

I have an 04 E55 and it has a slew of problems. Ranging from supercharger turning off to suspension knocking when going over bumps! Latest problem I have is every time i excellerate i here this chirping should. SOunds like a squeek or something...not sure if that is a problem but certainly annoying.... But I LOVE this car...its such a beast! I can deal with the problems.....

However, several mags have spoken about E W211 quality problems and that they have even lost market positions in Germany due to this. I would also like to hear about things to look for. THere has been no buyers guide compared to eg. the E 39 M5, which had many. Can it really be true that as the w211 is widely known to have reliability issues, the w211 E55 is reliable? Please post opinnions. Here we have no extended warranty possibility so I am really interested to know if the car is reliable!!!
If you want reliablity, gotta go lexus or toyota.... Other than that, its hit or miss when your buying a benz according to the posts we see above....

If you get one - get one with some sort of warranty... no matter how old it is.... when stuff goes wrong here it aint cheap...
BTW with the exception of some minor (although anoying squeaks) which have been sorted ! I just have a persistent pain in my neck from the whiplash...

Yup, Steve and Rocko said it best.
Car is, for the most part, pretty solid...BUT, just about everything on it is 10x what you would pay on another make, so if you are gonna drive it long term, you GOTTA get an extended warranty.
Bottom line, DO NOT drive this car without a warranty of some sort.
Motor installed runs 44K......44k!!!
