It better beat the stock E55 in the 1/4 mile. If not, it will lose a good bit of respect from me. I already know how we run against the M5. The question really isn't if it can replace my beast (cause it can't). The question is can it hang with the V10? What is the "gimmick" for the 6.3? Just displacement? The E55 used displacement and induction (the only 2 ways). We all know that BMW will have theirs tuned. we also know they will have more valves, etc than us. So, I ask why will the E63 be better than an M5? If the E63 is not WAY faster than the M5 (as the SC one has), then how will it win? The M5 will handle better.
I'm curious to see how the E63 does. I am afraid that MB is just buying time until the next generation E. They have been doing it for a few years now. The W211 chasis gets a face lift and gets called a CLS? Normally, MB takes time and $ to develop a new body style and it ALWAYS has some new twist to it. Then the CLS shows up and......nothing........OK, they call it a coupe, and?

But they ARE buying time with the 63 before the re-do...isn't that the whole point of the 63 ? I can't wait to see one and se how it runs...this is a big step for MB IMO...if they can up the ante with a NA engine...they can build on it. S/C's are hard on parts too...so a killer NA would be good for their bottom line too !

Vader,
I agree that the release of the 6.3 before the new body does help stretch the W211 life out. That part of it is no problem to me. the problem is that I do not see the NA engine as an up in the ante in any way. How is it? Again, compare it to the M5, which is its competition, not my E55. Cost is no excuse to me. MBUSA does not pay for the parts anyway, and trust me they are doing me no free favors.
we'll see how the 6.3 does. It will be new so many of you here will buy it. I am also sure that we will get new people on the forum once they pick one up, so we will start getting feedback soon.
Like I said, all I want to see is a 1/4 mile run between an E55/E63/M5

Hey Derek,
Do you keep yours road legal? I am amazed you even bother getting tags as much as you race it, or maybe it just seems that way. I guess you still want to be able to go on the roads with it. The 63 should really show its colors (over the E55 anyway) on the track.

In my opinion the 1/4 mile times should be close. The problem that we have against the M5 is after the 1/4 mile. The question is can the E63 outrun an M5 in the standing mile? which is also becoming the new standard in which a cars true performance is measured. just my .02

No gimmick, just a huge compromise!
MB was forced to ditch the supercharger , due to the latest safety regulations. The "Kompressor" is a big, hard lump of metal under the hood, in the precise position where a pedestrian's head impacts the soft aluminum hood in an accident. The only way to compensate for such a huge loss of torque and power, was to start from scratch with a more modern design, four valve-free revving engine with more cubic inches. In the end they came close but you cannot replace the 5.4 Kompressor torque unless you go over 7 liters NA.
It would still be a peaky sreamer and wouldn't have the low-down grunt of a SC or TT engine.
It will all be fixed when AMG tucks on a TT to this 6.3, as they will, sooner than we think!
