Re Quaife ATB Diff...

How wierd is this ... Quaife (a UK company) will not offer an ATB diff for E55 in the UK but say I can buy it from their US suppliers ... WTF ?

Its their proprietary technology for a LSD - basically its a variable lockup diff - as the need for lock up increases, the more this diff locks up ... at least thats what they say ... this is compared to clamped diffs where the gears are set to remain engaged up to a determined pressure (e.g. 30, 40%) ...

Seems the Quaife methodology is superior, and has been used very succesfully in racing and road applications for many years. Their (Quaife UK) customer service could do with some work though ...

A group buy is in progress PM 2QUIK4U if you are interested.

Contact SMGC32 for info about purchasing and installing the Quaife.

He has a long history of contact with Quaife and likely can help you/\.

Thanks CynCarvin32...

Yep there was a big install of C32 Quaife's on that board. For those contemplating taking part in the group buy - note this is a mod that requires surprisingly significant techinical know how with diffs - also getting to the diff is perhaps the most time consuming ... the whole pumpkin needs to come out. The bench work after that is fairly simple although alignment with shims may be necesary so its a tricky install. You will also need new bearings and seals.

I been calling around here in the UK and I tell you - not many shops will do this work. Quaife UK will do the diff work but wont take the car. So one problem solved - now need someone who will pull the pumpkin and keep my car in their shop while the internals get tweaked.

Stealer will pull / and reinstall the pumpkin at $180/hr for 3hrs in and 3hrs out... I am going to quiz them to see if they will fit the LSD internals too (will be much easier for me to co-ordinate) but so far I am going to send it to Quaife UK to do it ... and not sure stealer will do the internal work on non-stock stuff.

O boy why did this car not come with a LSD stock...?

I am on the list. It is $1450 delivered + shipping of around $75 i think to UK ...

I am checking a source here as well as he seems to think Quaife definately have E55 LSD's here in the UK .. so he is checking for me in mean time.

So far fittting is minimum of £700 + vat + gasket + new bearings... so fitting almost as much as the LSD ...

Ths private guy has not come back - but will call him again... £600 turnaround from the stealer is loads for the pumpkin only - mbe I can get them to install the quaife unit for that price but they may be reluctant to touch non OEM stuff - I will quiz them anyhow ...

BTW the group by is off. Can be had for around ~$1550 or so on an individual basis...
