WHITE STAR Flat Badge Maintenance

To keep your WHITE STAR Flat Badge nice and shiny white, a handful of members have written me to recommend the following products. You may already have these mag wheel cleaners in your car wash kit. A tin is about $4-$5 at your local auto store.

The Mothers product works especially well. Just put a dollup on the white star inlays, let sit for a couple minutes then wipe off. Minimal rubbing needed.

Minimize contact with the blue laurel wreath areas… these are in blue LACQUER, so the cleaners should not mar them. But I’d steer clear just to be sure.

I’ve been testing to find the right products, but thanks to members for these leads. Of course, this only applies to the few of you with Badges showing any wear... the vast majority are seeing none...

I can highly recommend these to even the pickiest of people as it is a badge the actually belongs on a $90K car.
Thanks for your comments. It's always gratifying to hear remarks from a satisfied customer.

I have received some PMs from members complaining they are having difficulty finding this thread. Until the Search Function is tweaked into something useful, I think I will make this one a STICKY for a while...

Finally a response to this sticky. I should emphasize the quality of this item. If you want the best, like you drive, spend it with DFW Dude.

I just bought the Affalterbach AMG hood emblem from eBay it came with 4 tire valve covers. The valve covers are better quality than the hood emblem itself. Its made of cheap plastic and the AMG symbol is a cheap ol sticker.

I'm glad you are not writing about my WHITE STAR Flat Badge!

I'm currently selling WHITE STAR Flat Badges serial numbered in the #280 range. Those interested in a serial number under #300 should contact me soon at DFWdude@tx.rr.com

I had really been entertaining getting the flat badge, as I have had some concerns about having the upright yanked or bent. I also kinda like how the car looks with a flat badge. I just cant see having the double badge on the front. Would look kinda silly. Only thing really worth replacing it with is an AMG badge. All the ones available look inferior. Maybe one day someone will make a nice AMG badge. No point in having the double badge look up front. Might as well just keep the upright

You shouldnt care if 35% of the ones sold went to AMG customers or not, or if the ones already sold would be outdated. Would create potentially more business. Who cares if anyone looking at the car knows what AMG is. Still think your missing out an creating the very best AMG emblem available instead of just another white star. Your choice obviously though. As its my choice not to buy into it.

THis is one person who will never do that double emblem look without it being an AMG badge instead of another MB star 6 inches away.

I think I would rather spend 50X more and have the center hole eliminated and hood repainted them do what every other MB has done. Or else just keep the upright until someone does mess it up and them eliminate the hole
Good luck with the sales as it sounds you have done ok with them.

The double emblem look is cool, the flat hood badge is a quality product that is easily installed. You will enjoy it, don't worry.........

If you want a cheap flathood alternative you can try what I did.

Remove the whole assembly - twist from underneath.
Once out pull the upright star hard and you will see it is retained by a spring, you have to look carefully and unclip it by lifting and twisting. Disassemble the whole thing looking carefully where each part goes. I then took a 1 euro coin which had a nice central design tail side up in silver to match the rest of the badge. Grind the edges of the coin until it presses into the hole left by removing the star, glue it in if necesary. Reassemble and refit in to bonnet.

Flat hood in 20 minutes and cost of 1 silver coin. (coin sits recessed but looks ok i think)

Saves you some money you can put towards an LSD instead....

Dude's Badge is made from the OEM upright hood part. The part is changed to replace the upright gunsight with the white star (the stuff within the blue wreath area.) So, the finished part fits just like the OEM part.

Write to DFWdude for the MBWorld price. His e-mail address is in his signature.

I just got my white star from DFW dude. Nice handy work. The price is a little brutal though. If you want to drop $100+ on the emblem then it is for you. I went to the dealer and took a look at the cheap plastic emblems and just couldn't do it. It's nice to have a monopoly I guess.

I've taken inventory... I have enough materials remaining to make a grand total of 350 WHITE STAR Flat Badges. As this is written there are 310 in circulation.

This leaves 40 left to be created and sold before...

terminating production.

If you are interested in this product, I encourage you to click on my Siggy below and send me an e-mail for pricing and availability updates.

Let me encourage you guys to get one of these White Star Badges. I have one on my 63 and it is a quality item. Looks great with the existing badge on the grill. It's one of those things that you will never regret getting for your ride. The best part is the installation, takes only a minute or two and fits like a glove.
