Exclamation Flat Hood Emblems

Hey guys..i see that a bunch of you have flat hood emblems and I like the look. It brings the front end of the car together a little better.

Where do you guys get the flat hood emblem and is there a large selection of them?

Thanks!

I got mine replace for free by the dealer when I bought the car, along with a bunch of other free stuff. But goto the website below and they have most of the different kinds out there. Ebay also always have emblems.

I am also interested in finding out where I can get one. I am looking for one that would go in the recess of the hood. Anyone know what size emblem I would need?

Hood STAR

I had a flat hood emblem for a while but reverted to the original STAR to constantly remind me how damn lucky I am to own such a magnificent piece of German automotive machinery...

I got mine on E-Bay (the small 1.75-inch one fits perfectly in the emblem depression on the hood - use 3M two sided emblem tape from Pep-Boys to plant it on) - here's a link to one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...Pr2_PcY_BIN_IT

Also, read my posts in the thread link below and look at my linked pictures, before you waste your money and spend $149- to be ripped off by Mario and add to his retirement fund:

I've had the Ebay ones before. The one sold on formymercedes.com is the best one I've seen and used.

If you are looking for a unique Mercedes flat hood badge (non AMG) then check out this thread.

https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w203/143911-new-mercedes-benz-white-star-flat-hood-badge-c-class-w203.html Gets really interesting from post #45 onwards.

Lots of pictures and interesting reading on how this one-of-a-kind WHITE STAR Flat Badge is being developed. It is made from an OEM upright star assembly, so it attaches with a simple twist of the wrist, just like the regular star... no post to break.

Very limited production, and a serial-numbered collector's item, too. I have one on my car and it is BEAUTIFUL.

Before I bought this one, I measured the G, and R badges myself. These are the exact same size as the standard, cheap plastic SLK badge. The only difference is the badges on these cars sit within a divot in the hood rather than on top. So they might look smaller, but they aren't.

Are you sure you measured the G? I don't mean GL. I just ran to the dealer and checked. See the pics. It is identical to the one you are describing, so i ma now very confused.

Ah, OK. I was indeed referring to the GL, not the G. I'll have to look more carefully next time I see a G... in general they are so ugly, I seldom get close enough.

Here is the badge I referred to in Post #15 on my car. It is a standard upright star assembly, with the center Upright Star area milled away with a WHITE STAR flat insert in it's place. Neat thing is that you can switch back and forth between flat and upright badges with almost no effort. Upright on formal occassions, flat for that lower, sportier look.

MB-BOB thanks for referring me to this thread. Here are a few pics of my WHITE STAR Flat Badge. As you see, it is the OEM star, with the center section replaced with a chromed metal white star insert. The WHITE STAR Flat Badge fits any current model with the standard upright star (C, E, S).

I make these on the weekends, as a hobby. Or that's how it has started at any rate. To request details please click on the link in my signature. Thanks.

DFWdude, I can see some subtle differences, especially in the edges of the emblem. The one you start with has the rounded edges and the G one was more squared off. I was considering trying one on, but got lazy.

Just for clarity sake, do we have an option to flip back and forth between star and flat with the custom one, or is it a permanent piece? I know we could have two badges and flip em out, but I could do that with the G one, too.

I would love to see some up close pics of both side by side to see if there is any detail diffs.

Sorry to cause all the fuss, but I just LOVE custom stuff, especially limited editions.

No problems at all. It appears we are on line at the same time...

To answer your question, you can replace the upright star with the WHITE STAR Flat Badge (and vice-versa) as quickly as you can open and close the hood + 10 seconds. Both use the same mount. I understand some folks want this flexibility to switch between "formal and sporty" appearance.

Got it. the advantage is in keeping the stock "finger" tight fittings.

Thanks for the clarification.

On another note, would you consider other colors for the center? i would like a silver versus white, since the G has the white. LOL!

I was at the dealer today and looked at their last G55 AMG... I was told the G's are being discontinued in favor of the GLs(?)

Anyway, the Badge on the G is actually 1/8" smaller in diameter than the OEM upright star on the C, E, S, etc. I doubt it will cover the slots at the top and bottom of the hole in the hood of these C, E, S, etc.

Also, the design of the G badge itself is very crude... Way too crude for a $110K ride.

I have the flat badge everyone gets from the dealer. It's not as easy to swap on and off, and I hate how cheap it looks, especially the way it just covers over the hole. I took it off, and put the star back on. The new one will go on the car, but when i sell the car someday, I'm keeping this new badge. The pictures are great, I can't wait to see mine. Thanks again Rob.

It is a little rough looking (the badge that is) on the outside edges, isn't it?

The G is going nowhere until at least 2010. It sells too well around the world and MB has made recent investments in the Austrian plant. The Gl is just a bigger ML, it is NOT a Truck.

You never said if you could make a silver one? Or a different color than white in the center?
