*** 160 Thermostat ***

I am not sure what diff the thermo mod does once the engie is at opps temp - thermostat is from my understanding a device that gets the engine to normal opp temp as quickly as possible, and the assumption is normal opps temp has to be somewhat above the thermo's opening point. I cannot imagine teh thermostat contantly opening and closing as the motor cools and heats up ... or is this typically the case?
Surely if the engine normal opp temp is ~200deg F (with a stock 190deg point) , then a 160deg thermostat would not do much once motor has warmed up...?
What am I missing ?

The faster the car gets to operating temp the cleaner it is..a 195 will cycle to KEEP the temp at 195.... 165 will open sooner and allow the car to come down to whatever temp the engine wants to be at determined by load..OAT etc. but no lower than 165...

The lower the coolant temp....the cooler the intake charge will be!!

If this works...we can start "tweaking" a little more timing or boost

PTE.....I have installed the 160 degree thermostat in my e55,and yes fellows the car runs significantly cooler. My car used to run 88-90c,now it runs 82-84c.
I do not feel any additional hp,but its a peace of mine knowing that the car is running cooler.
Thanks again PTE........For those of you who has not yet have the install, you need to give it a try.

The dealer installed my 160 Thermostat and I just had a chance to drive it a bit.. It definitely works!! My car is at 80C- 81C while cruising and goes up to 84C - 85C when hard on the throttle.
This is a great mod for our heat-soaked cars.

Patrick, like I mentioned in another thread, thank you very much for the 160 Thermo. I am a sucker for little mods on my car, and I notice this one whenever I drive the car.

PTE, do you know anyone at MB of Palm Beach that could do the fan mod? Also, could anyone please explain in more detail what the fan mod does for the most part?
