In my 8 years racing in the Chicagoland area, I've always had a hassle at Byron.
From finding a paved area to jack the car (better now) to the unending lines, I've never had an "easy" day there. The last two full days there afforded me a total of five passes.
I've held events at US41 before and was treated like royalty.

I can't go but I agree Byron is a bit on the nasty side...well prepped and fast but a little "rustic" Its been around a long time...it has gotten better...so has Union Grove. I wish I could be there. Sounds like fun.

I just spoke to the track manager, and they indeed changed their hours to 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.
I plan on arriving right at 10 and setting up by the fence. I will have a blue E-Z-up and a few chairs. Just look for the 6'5" guy with braces.
Drag radials are in.

Equipment for racing ?
I've never been to a racetrack. I'd love to come, but I need advice on what to get...and where...and total costs for this. I have stock tires, can I still play safely ? How long does this usually take (2 hrs?).

All you really need is a helmet to play safly and by the rules. Bring your car, stock tires are fine. If you ever play on the street you will be in stock tires so you will have experience with them on hte track. Once at the track you can be there as long as you like, 2, 4, 6 hours. If you don't have a helmet, maybe someone can lend you theirs. I will, if it fits you. I was at Byran track and they didn't care if I had a helmet running 12.8.

Stock tires are fine, just drive AROUND the water box.
I will hold a "basics" meeting around 11:00 that should answer most Q's. That should allow everyone enough time to go through tech and come back.
I-Doc: The track is about an hour from downtown, traffic willing.
I believe that it is $25 or $30 to run all day, 5 or 10 to spectate.
