Stock suspension is the worst part of the car (imo), gives off a fairly harsh ride for how well the car handles. For that kind of ride, it should be much better in the handling department. A set of PSS9s or whatever would do the trick.
Changing out the exhaust solved the stock sound issue.....raspy.

I just got off the phone with my master Mercedes technician (he is also a huge performance enthusiast), He just completed prepping and test driving a new E63. A summation of his thoughts:
Pros:
Cons:
Pros:
- Brakes are superior to the E55, much better feel
- Appearance- the car has a great stance and looks very aggressive
- 7speed trans is awesome, shifts are smooth and fast. The shift paddles are much better than the buttons
- Steering is much improved and this car actually gives feedback as to what the front tires are doing,
Cons:
- The engine is a dog down low and it does not come alive until 4,000RPM. He would be shocked if it is faster than a stock E55 in the quarter mile. "You can definitely notice the loss of torque compared to the E55."
- The only negative comment he made about the interior was that he did not like the new gauges
- Exhaust note- reminds him of the SLK55

Its not rocket science, we know that in the 2k RPM range its not going to have the torque feel of the E55.
But the car is still going to be a monster and after the 3-4k RPM marks hits.....I'll bet it screams and will be very comparable to the E55 in straight line speed.
It still has more hp than the E55, which people seem to forget.
And why would anyone even think to sell their E55s for an updated E?
That would be kind of stupid, no matter what they did to the E63.

That's a big deal for me as I loved the old style armrest on my 04 E55. It's also a big factor in my buying decision. Do you have any picts of the center armrest?

The E63 will be about 2/10's faster 0-60 due to better traction (spelled less torque) and the first couple of gears in the 7 speed (the last 2 gears of the 7 speed are very close to overdrives) but it will not have the low /midrange thrust of the 55. Motor Trend had a brief review of the new E class including the 63 and they said the 63 simply did not have the push you into the seat thrust of the 55.

While the car does look beautiful, some how the car didn't make me fall in love with it at first sight. I guess they traded some of the elegance of before face lift with some of the sportiness that the E63 has. It's now sharing more interior parts with the CLS.

I personally love the 7g but agree it has had some issues with smooth downshfting as you come up to a stop light. WIDE OPEN THROTTLE shifts have always been flawless and thats the part I love the most!
I cant wait to test an E63! That motor is light years ahead of this 3 valve head we have on our cars. The air flow patterns and quality of the parts in this M113 motor is just terrible IMHO. The blower makes it scream down the road but its hardly more advanced than a pushrod Chevy!
Most tuners who tear these motors down say they are nothing that special but yes they do scream and have a very flat torque curve. The old M119 V8 seen in production between 1990 and 1999 makes the M113 motor look like junk. Just listen to a M113 idle and then find an 1992 500E or 500SEL and listen to the difference. One purrrs and the other clatters like a cold 1980's 300SD.
MB always has terrible issues with the first year of a new gear box. In 1997 the 5 speed tranny was put into wide production and I had 3 cars that year and each went through at least 1 tranny in the first 5k miles. They were horrible until the bugs were worked out. The same will go for the 7g box as well.
Vadim will tell you, the 63 motor is a true work of art. It might not be capable of sick power with just a pulley and a chip but it is a ture race motor with the reliability of a MB (no internal work needed for at least 150k miles of very hard driving).

Work of art or whatever, I'd take the BMW V10 over it anyday.

The truth is that they run ok to start with and only get worse with age, snce the adaptation is what is off (again known and open issue)

I had no issues with Marcus posting his inventory, pricing, etc. It is the "un"-biased review that pissed me off and lost some his integrity. If the rest of you are impressed and consider that genuine, great.
Smoother downshifts? OK, buddy. the tranny doesn't even know when to downshift much less makes it smotth.
