Thinking about an M6... thoughts??
First off, no yelling at me...Guys, you are all well educated and have solid opinions (even you Jangy
) and I am thinking about getting an M6. No, I will not be getting rid of my E55- I have too much invested in that car and will never recoup the costs plus I still love it after 2 years. What I am thinking is dumping my 2003 996TT- I have some decent mods on it: Stage III turbo work, GIAC chip, Sportec 20lb Wheels, Fabspeed Exhaust, JRZ coils, etc. but I am so bored for some reason. The car is a rocket, handles great but I am drawn to the M6 for some reason. I know some your or maybe most of you find the 6 ugly but I want put some 20's on it, exhaust and a drop. Most of my peers and friends are not car enthusiasts- I come to this board for insight and direction- tell me what you think. Have any of you driven the 6? I know about the M5- I drove one the other day and I know its pro's and cons.
Oh I can get the M6 below sticker too! Another remote option is a used 2005 CL65 that I can steal in the high 80's with 10k miles but then I have two benzes that are stoplight racers. Here are pics that you may have seen of my tt....

HAHA!! love my name keeps popping up. You know I was looking at an M6 as well. Just went and saw one last night. The carbon roof, etc is quite nice. I think it is a great compliment to the E55. I was considering it or an SL65, but am leaning now at a GT3 or M6. I am just not into another Benz, especially with all the scuffle going on. I drove a new SL550 and it just didn't do a thing for me, eventhough it isn't fair to compare it to an M6.
The M6 felt nice and solid, yet pretty agile for its weight. I do not know if it will be plagued with the same issues that the current M5 is under, though would be my only fear.
Dude, SWEEET 996.

Now thats some depreciation. Did you get to open up the M6 during the test drive?
I did pin it a few times, but only up to about 90mph, so it didn't do it justice. the interior is MUCH nicer than the M5 and it has a little snugglier fit, which i liked.
I was always under the impression that there were a few SL65s around that rarely get driven. From time to time I hear of one at the dealer that can be had cheap, relatively speaking.

I always thought a Porsche was what you moved up to after a BMW, not the other way around.
I have yet to see any M6 approach the aesthetic beauty of a 911tt. Dress the M6 up with new wheels, ground effects and lowering and it will still look like of a Pontiac.
Don't get me wrong I am not a hater of BMW. As a matter of fact, I think they make some of the most well engineered and involving cars in the world. Maybe I just can't get past the skin to appreciate what the M6 has to offer............... but if I'm going to shell out $100,000+ for a car, I would expect it not only to drive like a dream but also to look like one.
Do I still need to tell you what I would do?

wow.... cl65 in the 80's??? that car lost 100k in value in less than 2 years? tempting, but I agree, why have the CL65 and the E55.... when I bought my E55 I was tempted by a S600 I could have picked up for a few thousand more, but it was just to big, and old looking with the new S that was about to come out...
I would keep the 911.... looks so much better than the M6.... and probably kills the M6 performance wise....

Wow....Vic, that is one bit#h'n 996 & I think if you are going to consider the 6, the M6 is the way to go. I do agree that wheels will make or break that ride & lowering it to were the wheels are tucked will finish off what BMW started. However, I cannot see you getting rid of that Porsche for the Beemer. Sorry, but I have a soft spot in my heart for the TT!

Thanks guys, all that you have said makes sense. I guess I got a little warped because I normally only keep my cars 18 months and I have had my E55 for over 2 and the Pcar for close to 2 years. Its that new car itch but I am sure about 6 months from now the M6 will have worn out its welcome???

I had the same itch when the M6 came out. I even went to the dealership twice to look at the car and took it out for a spin once. Loved the handling and agility of the car but didn't like the lack of punch down low. Also the exterior looks a little too rounded and too tamed to be an M car.

CL65 with the M275 biturbo AMG motor and luxury for $80K sounds too good to pass up. At 10K miles, you are only getting the car broken in! As for the M6, a friend of mine is getting his uncle's for a week sometime next month, and I am going to test it out...thoroughly. Look for my post in the OT section sometime in August, when I get a chance behind the wheel of it. I'll be as descriptive as possible.
As for my own thoughts, it depends on what you really want in a car. The CL65 is one end of the spectrum: a very powerful superbly comfortable coupe. The modified Porsche Turbo is at the other end: fantastic power, stunning grip, and true sports car feel. The M6 is a combination of the two. Since the Porsche is already yours, I would say just hold on to it and have fun. If you want to sell the E55 and purchase the CL65 at that incredible price, then that would be a different story.

Vic is you have super nice E55 as daly driving and nice TT for weekends...I woundnt buy an M6....It a nice car but you dont need it, it wont keep up with TT on the track and wont be as fast as e55...
I dont know how much money do you wanna spend but if you bored with TT, get a 430 Ferrrari or used Galliardo and put superchanger in it...

No way! The M6 is a huge step down from your 996tt. I'd say go for the CL65 and let Renntech do their magic. The 996 is way too good looking to trade it in for an M6. Not that I don't think the M6 is a cool car but it's no where near as cool or as nice as the 996tt, Cl65, or even the Cl600.

Vic,
The only car I see replacing my CL55 with is a CL65 ... it's a big car, so I honestly don't see a used AM, Bentley GT, etc. as being replacements even though they are more exclusive.
So that is the kicker, it is a big car which to me is a benefit. A CL65 as a replacement to your Porsche would probably not fill the need for why you have the Porsche to begin with.
I would dare say that the M6 also wouldn't fill that need when compared to your modded Porsche.
Did I mention that I really really really want an M6? I just can't see how I could ever justify a small coupe.
But if you do get rid of the Porsche, I would recommend test driving both the M6 and the CL65. To me, for a relatively small price the CL65 can get up to the 800 ft-lbs or torque level, which is very enticing. Time will tell, but the M6 is probably going to be extremely expensive to mod.

love the porsche
I'd be interested in how much your selling it for as well ...
I seriously was trying to convince myself to buy a 6 series and I can honestly say that I just can't stand the rear of that car.
Why not get a AM V8? You have super fast cars already.

me neither, but the Ford GT will hold..... you wouldn't think a Dodge would hold either, my 1996 Viper GTS has held it's value pretty well..... I paid $54k over 6 years ago, and I could still get around $50k for it....

Forget the M6! You just need to step up your game on the 996. Get either the EVOMS GT750 or GT800 kit and you won't feel so bored anymore. Or if that's not enough there's always the RUF RT12 conversion.

The dealer here had a M6 White with Red it was selling for $185,000 and it looked nice but If I was you I would trade your 996TT for 997TT. I also saw a yellow 997TT Friday Pirce tag $ 195,000 and it is the best car out there for perfomance and looks. I am thinking of the 997S or If I get rid of the 745Li and E500 I might go with the TT! Prices here are killing, for every car here in Puerto Rico there is a sales tax of 40% ABOVE STICKER and now they just put in a NEW Law which one has to pay $1,500 for yearly licence plate tag!
