Maserati Quattroporte

colleague at work just got car. second time today he mashed the thing and blew by me as i was driving at speed in the city given conditions. wondering if i should just obliterate his saloon? running stock, which would be no prob.-would hate to think what stage 1/2 (you pick the tuner) would do. anyway, just laughed-it's like an adolescent dressed like Superman thinking he really does have the "power"...i work next to him on our floor so prob. need to keep it cool. oh, danny boy....

Maserati-
Engine type: DOHC 32-valve V-8, aluminum block and heads, port fuel injection
Displacement: 259 cu in, 4244cc
Power (SAE net): 394 bhp @ 7000 rpm
Torque (SAE net): 333 lb-ft @ 4500 rpm

...just found this. this makes it even funnier...wonder if he has ever had HELL COME TO HIS HOUSE?

Dont judge a book by its cover!

It was a few weeks ago when a friend of mine and I decide to stop off at fast food place on our way back from MX practice. We were pretty dirty to say the least but decided we needed to stop and eat anyways. We were sitting there along with 6-10 other people eating our lunch when I see one of those Quattro's role in and park next to the E55.I look over and tell my buddy what I'm seeing and we make some small talk about the car and its good looks. The owner and his pretty girl companion come in and place and order to go,sit down across from me and wait.I casually look over and compliment the guy on his car,get a so so reply back and that was it.So then I decide to ask how he likes it and how long has he had it etc...The guy looks over at me,runs an eye visual on me from head to toe and back up again...waits like 5 seconds and says,"its good".Then turns to his girl and rolls his eyes as if he's wasting his breath talking to me.Right about then their to go food is ready and out the door they go,along with my self and my friend. He's unlocking his door when he turns around and see's me getting in the drivers door of my E right next to him, stops and gives me a frown from hell.I just put up a huge grin and said,"Yep,and its faster too!"

The look on his face was beyond priceless....I haven't laughed that hard in a very long time.

Have any of you driven one? They might not be as fast, but they corner like no other! Almost got one, but got such a good deal on the S55, I decided to stay with AMG.

QPs are badass cars, but they don't have anything for an E55 in straight-line acceleration. If you try to chase up a twisty offramp or through a canyon you'd better have your seatbelt on and your insurance paid up!! I've driven several of them and going from my E55 to the QP always screws me up (and vice versa). I usually nearly stack it up at the first turn because of how sharp the QP's handling is. Makes my E55 feel like a schoolbus.

At least you guys are honest about the Quattroporte's handling abilities and not trashing the car. Really classy.

There were rumors about V12 QP for a while (612's engine)but they decided against it for some reason.
Too bad,it would be the ultimate ride while the current one is way too underpowered, especially in the Torque department.

Ferrari didn't like them appropriating Fcar engines, apparently. Can you blame them?

I know a guy who bought two of them and they kept breaking so he ended up with a Bentley. The Qp spent more time in the shop than a brand new bmw 745i.

Of course, you gotta give credit when it's due.
The Maserati is a bad a$$ car, it's just not as fast as the E55, but we all know that's not the only thing that makes up a car.

I am really liking that car these days. Trying to convince my wife to get one. As others said that car is a tremendous handler - I believe Evo had it going around their track quicker than an M5.

It's also very cool how many different color combo's you can create when spec'ing the car on their webpage.

BTW, had a Maser Gran sport next to me the other day and it was one of the best sounding cars i've ever heard.

I drove one extensively and hated it. The "F1" gearbox is crap in a luxury car that size. If you floor it, the whole car dives frightfully on every up-shift and you can count to three when it happens. Handles well, for a barge that is, maybe even better than S55...E55 feels nimble by comparison.

You got me there, I must say I saw one in a gas station and the exhaust note was incredible when he took off, at least the exhaust note will take over the E55.

They are super bad *** cars. I don't think it's a big deal that they are not as fast, they definitely get the attention that the E55 or other Merc's don't get. Exhaust tone is really nice as well.

Rafal, it's interesting that you think the E55 feels nimble compared to the Q when Evo had the Q faster than the M5 around the track and we all know the E55 vs. M5 handling question.

Real Cars
While the MAS has an unquestionably nice Italian flare to it, from the sound of it's engine to the nicely appointed interior and exterior, it is way out paced by the E60 M5 and E55 AMG, and has acceleration figures that are only a hair quicker than the old E39 M5 and W210 E55. On top of that the F1 trans in the Mas is downright terrible and incredibly irritating for a luxury car, enough to the point it alone would be reason enough for me to stay miles away from one. I have not driven an SMGIII car yet from BMW, but I honestly think the Maserati's F1 trans is worse than the SMGII from the E46 M3, if that is possible.

Just my $.02

I've got a QP and my wife has an E55 wagon. They are both fast tanks - the E55 smokes the QP, but the QP outhandles the E55 by a long shot. The E55 has all the gadgets, the QP does not have nearly the amount of creature comforts of the E55. I've removed the rear mufflers of the QP and it sounds like nothing else. The word "unholy" comes to mind.
The QP requires more driver input than the E55, but it also provides better feedback. As for the comment about it being a fake Ferrari, it shares and engine block and the basis for a transmission with the Ferrari, but they are very different vehicles and it has hard to see how someone who knows anything about cars could even compare the two beyond their shared parts.
In the end, if it came between driving the QP and the E55, I'll take the QP without question. My wife, on the other hand, prefers the E55.
All performance cars have their quirks. I've always enjoyed them in spite of their faults.
As for the transmission, drive it in "Sport" and "Manual".
