Performance Modifications for E63

What kind of mods can be made to the E63? The 7 speed with its limited strength would seem to limit the possibilities.

I'm assuming Renntech, Kleeman and the rest will come out with something. How can you up the HP and speed without causing a transmission problem?

Kleemann has SLK55 7 speed with 500+ torque, im not sure if its moded but i think if you mod e63 with another 50-to 80 lbs of trq nothing major will happen to it.

from edmunds:

"Though the new gearbox is far more efficient than the five-speed, and though it was not built to handle the massive torque of the supercharged engine, its limit of 542 lb-ft, say Mercedes engineers, gives it the required durability to handle the 6.2's far-from-paltry crank twist."

so another 50lbs of tq will be doable without hitting the limit.

Right now there are absolutely ZERO mods for the E63. Can't even get K&N'
s yet, unless they are using the same airbox as the 5.5 (not likely)

Should be soon though.

Renn and Klee are burning the midnight oil I am sure.

The question I'm asking poses a problem: If you only have about 100 ft.lbs. of torque left on the transmission, how much HP can you realize before you have reached the upper limit.

Secondly, if you're that close, your probably gonna tear up something anyway. There is not enough of a safety margin to allow much HP increase unless your methodology does not increase torque.

How do you increase HP/performance without increasing torque?

Exactly!

I'm sure someone is working on mods for the e63. This should include:

Headers (supersprint had a mock up 4 months ago for the 63)
Cams
ECU program
Lightweight pulley
TB
Air Filter & Box

It would be safe to say this motor should have the similar hp (+or- a few) results that a new z06 would produce with similar mods. Either way the 63 motor should be a screamer!!

Yes sir, many of the people on this board have forgotten that there is such a thing as NA Tuning. Push that power band a little further to the right, lighten up that valvetrain, make those cams a touch more aggressive, and you've got yourself some more ponies. If they can get another 100 out of the M5's V10 with an ECU and an exhaust, imagine what they're going to get out of the E63. Its going to SCREAM.

Gentlemen, prepare to void those powertrain warranties.
