That is awesome news Jim!!!

Thanks for stepping up and being the guinea pig on this one! You took a major risk and helped everyone.. Give the car a 100 miles or so and see if it adapts to the surging. If it doesnt, the extra airflow from the 80mm TB might just fix 'er up!!

Don't do a dyno unless you've put 150 - 200miles on the car otherwise the ECU wont have fully adapted to the changes.

So now your basically running a K2 with SLR cams, and the stock K2 program?
Sorry if youve got your details posted elsewhere, any other mods?
cheers
Mornin!!!

Yeah it's K2 with cams and high flow pump and filters.

Next up...VRUS Throttle Body.

I won't talk to Ken til next week, anyone got any ideas on the surge at stoplights and idle trouble. Been searching the forum like crazy.....possible crank position sensor??

Surging could be 1 of 3 things..

1) Degree of cam... If he degreed the cam even 1 tooth off, you could experience surging, or poor performance.

2) Crank position sensor.. Dont know if it could have been affected during install, but I do know it could be the culprit based on what some people experience when they are stock and have surging.

3) It could just be the tuning.. The ECU might need to be reprogrammed to accommodate this new profile cam and that could be why Kleemann does the ECU updates with their cam package.

yes you do, new software is always necessary, stock ECU can adapt to some extent but not that much.

Not true, at least not with our E55's. I had the Kleemann performance cams installed in my E55 and the ECU did not need reflashing according to Corey at Kleemann. I'm guessing the ECU has the ability to adapt to the additional performance aspects of the cam.

Not sure about your SLR cams though.

Are you saying that K4 runs the same ECU program as K2? I know that the addition of the TB does not require a re-flash of K2.

Yup....right on the money.

K2 Program should be good to go.

Took it out ripping yesterday and surge seems to be calming down. Just seems like idle in 1st at redlight is kinda up and down. Sometimes higher, other redlights lower. Like ECU is trying to prevent it from doing something, like stall. We'll try some basics like Crank Sensor and go from there.

For now it feels like a car possessed at high end. Probably will end up being the same gains as a Klee cam, but for now I AM LOVING IT!!!!

Wish I could narrate each pic with text, but for now will just post um on up.
Ken (installer) said it was unlike any other cam he'd ever seen. Would love to stuff it FULL of SLR parts. someday.....

OH, notice on the last pic, the double roller chain is where we had our only trouble. The Cam Sensor comes in from the right and literally near touches the thing on stockers, on mine it did touch. Had to do some quick thinking and a little "Monster Garage" on the spot grinding, but we made it work.

Modular Camshafts Reduce Weight

To make the modular cams, AMG starts with a precision seamless welded tube. Individually forged cam lobes are placed onto the tube. When all cam lobes are lined up, an expansion lance is pressed into the tube. The lance expands the tube hydraulically at each lobe position, fusing the lobes to the shaft. This modular process simplifies the design and manufacture of camshafts.

Here he is trying to get the Cam Sensor to work. Little scary, but he did a killer job.

The SLR Cam Gear was a different part and we may just try that and see if the cam sensor fits stock with that gear.

Next up...SLR DRY SUMP OIL SYSTEM....heh heh, just kiddin, course that's what I said about the cams so stay tuned.

This sounds more like a problem with the camshaft position sensor, not the crank sensor.

Think the cam sensor is the issue - had similar thing happen on my bmw ... although give the ecu some time mbe it just needs to adjust....

I would think you need and ecu remap to make the most of this mod though ....

Sounds like a vacuum hose leak... Look on the fire wall to see if the hose has slipped off.

It's where the aluminum line hooks into a rubber hose.

Has happened to me before and I experienced phantom acceleration at the red light with surging and **** idle.

Good luck man...
