Project SLR Cams in E55 update..AND THE VERDICT IS.....
SUCCESS!!!
Just heard from the mechanic and he said so far we are good to go. Gonna pick it up bout 3-4pm and will get full details then.
WARNING....we still don't know what kind of performance we are gonna see with this until we get her on the dyno.
Could be the same friggin cam as the E55 and I could have just wasted a few grand. Worst case, performance loss.
Let's get it on the dyno and see what she pulls.
Will update later this PM when I rip it back from the dealer.

Hey you guys,
Should I tip the mechanic a few hundred for the great job. He is gonna be doing my throttle body soon too.
Just didn't know if that was cheesy or a cool thing to do. Not sure what shop foreman/SLR dudes make and don't wanna insult the guy or anything. He was just over the top with greatness.
Gonna head down in bout an hour.

This should be interesting.......
The SLR engine is quite different than the 5.5 Kompressor in your car.
Can't wait to hear the result.
Did you change anything else?

You should've mic'ed the SLR cams before they went in, and then did the same for the E55 cams. You could've at least measured to see if there was anymore lift in the new cams.
If it works out for you then I'll buy a set also and get them spec'ed out before they go in.
BTW>.once again, you're the man!

Definitely tip him Jakpro. I have thrown my MB tech a hundo every now and then. If he installed SLR cams for me, that would definitely warrant a nice tip.

20+ to list......
Definitely keep us posted. Any adjustments to the ECU needed? If you could, please post a video of the car's idle, would like to hear how the car runs. Thanks.

SLR cams
Are you kidding . Most of those guys (Line mechanics or lead techs )never see a tip , let alone a thanks. I'm not trying to tell you how to spend your money. But for $100.00 I'll change your thermostat .LOL You are very gracious and will not be forgotten. Even small things to those guys count. I gave the line tech at the local MB dealer a S.S. Kershaw knife off the Snap On truck. He proudly shows it too me everytime I visit. When it comes to small even requests. AE; Please don't reflash My ecu. Oh you know!!! They are Human Too Thanks ___PTE___

Real emotional day so kinda wiped out (will post pics this weekend), so will give you the bullet points. Some good news and some bad news on it.
Quick shout out to the SLR/Foreman Ken Robinson (hope I got your last name right Ken). He was checking out the forum today and enjoyed it. Imagine a guy with pretty much top to bottom knowledge of the AMG, then toss in his passion for modding, THEN the guy runs the entire department!!! I just could not have lucked out more.
Okay...
Good news. Car just friggin kicks a$$ you guys. Feels strong STRONG on the top end. Better all round, but strong on the top end. Just can't wait to get this thing on the dyno. Just have no clue what it will pull. We'll see next week.
Bad News. Install wasn't plug and play like Klee and Renntech and that's where having your local neighborhood SLR mechanic came in handy.
It's weird, the cams were really similiar and then again totally different. He said the cams were, "Just friggin awesome" in design. So different then the regular AMG cams, yet near identical in length when he put them side by side. Just an awesome piece of engineering. Anyway, we ran into a problem with the Cam Gear and it bumped just a fraction of a millimeter against the Cam Sensor. To get us by, we ground down the gear very slightly (hard to describe, but the part that contacts the sensor) and got clearance. The SLR cam gear is a different part number so I am considering getting the SLR cam gear, not sure yet.
Having some idle issues now. Car surges a bit as it is winding down at a red light switching into first. Idle is also very high in neutral and had her stall once on me. We'll get it dialed in.....had quite a few recalls done (not air injec thank God..he knew about the troubles), but did have battery disconnected for one. I heard some guys have had some trouble after this. Also not ruling out a sensor gone bad somewhere.
Wish the dyno was open Monday darn it.....I reallly wanna see where it gained hp.
