Yes, that is the correct # for the new fleece oil filter.

I would also recommend that you check your owners manual for the oil quantity. Your dealer gave you wrong info. The std. 500 motors take 8.5 quarts--the AMG models take 7.9 quarts because of the windage tray in the oil pan. ( I do put in an even 8qts. with no problems or overfill warnings)

Hope this helps

Make sure you also change the 2 drain plugs. Part# 000 990 53 17 which is part of the oil change on E55 and SL55

Thanks so much for that. Yeh the super genius parts guy at my dealer who told me over 8 qts. also told me that my E55 motor was not hand built, but a stock V8 that was modified by AMG I just looked at him and smiled. Makes no sense to argue with these morons.

This is the reason why I goto these forums they are great. Thanks again for your help.

Hey thanks for that, but I got em when I picked up the oil filter. I also ordered a Mercedes factory measuring stick that goes into the engine to physically check the oil like a dib stick. This is used by the Mercedes techs. I will post some pics as soon as it arrives at my dealer since it was a back ordered item.

You might consider getting a Mityvac #7201 oil extractor. With the oil filter on top, you could do it in a business suit.

Do you have the part number for the measuring stick?

I would like to order one also.

Thanks.

I was going to get one too, but $130.00 seemed kind of high for a dip stick.

Instead of the normal markings, it just has a mm. scale. Make sure you get the true mm. level for your car.

In fairness to the parts guy Mercedes was recommending 8.5 quarts of oil for the M112 & M113 engine. Only recently (within 2 years I think, can't rememver off the top of my head) Mercedes released a bulletin saying 7.9 quarts should be used. You should be fine with an even 8.

Just got back from my Mercedes dealer and picked the following up for the E55.

Oil Filter Canister socket wrech Part # 103-589-02-09-00
Oil Level Measuring Tool Part # 120-589-07-21-00
New Mobil1 5W-40 ESP Formula M oil Part # Q-1-09-0134

The Oil Filter Canister socket is a great help in removing that black plastic lid on the oil filter housing without breaking it. The oil Level measuring Tool is a must if you want to physically see the oil level in your engine as I do.

My dealer told me the they are now servicing all cars with the new 5W-40 ESP Formula M Mobil 1 oil. This is new and they have just switched from the 0W-40 Mobile 1. I have no idea why they did this

Here's a pic of all the parts.

Yeh I paid $105.60 for it. This is a lot of $ for a measuring stick, but I wanted it, and it's the only physical way to check the oil level in these motors.

I am curious about the oil. I did not find it on their site. Did you buy this at the dealer, or at the parts store?

Could you look on the bottle and tell me if it has MB229.5 and ACEAa3 qualifications?

I wonder if it is a modified version of their diesel oil?

I just googled the oil, and it is the diesel oil.
A Mercedes oil chart came up and it said for diesel engines with partical oil filter.

I got the oil at my Mercedes Dealer. At the time that is all they had in stock the 5W-40. I went back today and exchanged the 5W-40 for the 0W-40 that I have always used in my E55. Not sure why they sold the 5W-40 to me since it says on Mobil 1's web site that it is for diesel's with particle filters

Good call- they probably had a bunch of the diesel oil in stock and wanted to get rid of it.
With the new E diesel coming over here, they will finally be able to get rid of some of that overstock 5w-40.

Did you get a definitive m/m measurement for the dipstick?

Yeh it was weird that 5W-40 was the only oil that had in stock that day. Today they had both, so I exchanged it for the 0W-40 that I have always been using.

Here's the info from Mercedes Benz on the oil level measuring stick:

OIL LEVEL MAXIMUM 168mm
OIL LEVEL MINIMUM 137mm

Mine is a little above the middle at 158mm which is perfect in my book.

Some photos for those that want to check their own oil with the factory measuring stick.

Photo 1 - remove RED stop plug
Photo 2 - Insert dipstick into oil guide tub until the tip appears in the engine oil pan.
Please note the coller of the dibstick grip end must NOT touch the oil guide tube.

Like I said before the Minimum level on the stick for engine oil check is 137mm and the Maximum level is 168mm. My car was just above middle at 158mm.

Another great factory tool from Mercedes Benz is the oil filter housing socket wrench for $16.80(part# 103-589-02-09-00) . This can be purschased at any MB dealer. It fits over the oil filter housing and removes the black lid without cracking it.

That sounds like a cool tool, but I have a Challenger 10,000lb. capacity lift in my warehouse. It keeps the E55 perfectly level for draining and filling the oil and it saves my back everytime I use it to service all my cars.

I have assume, in reference to Photo 2, that you are pushing the dipstick all the way down. Your wording threw me off a little.

Great lift!! I just may have to look into one of those. I think there are some "home use" models that are priced reasonably.

Definately jealous of your shop. Nice calendar girls!

Yes in photo#2 the dib stick is as fare as it will go. The instructions I have state that it must NOT touch the guide tube. So I know I did it correct.

Thanks for the nice comments, yeh there are a lot of nice girls hanging on the walls of the shop.
It's safe to say I now have a full stock of the correct 0W-40 Mobil 1

Where did you get the instructions? Did they come with the dip stick? Thanks.

Nope, a buddy of mine is a Mercedes Benz Powertrain engineer at Mercedes US headquarters here in Montvale, NJ. I got the instructions from him. If you send me a PM with your e-mail I will get them to you. Now hows that for service?
