SLK55 smokes E63
I currently own an SLK55 and ordered an E63. The dealer I buy from allowed me to test drive an E63 today. A friend of mine followed me in my SLK55 and we meet up on the Clara Barton Parkway in Maryland. It was mid-day with no traffic and no cops. We made 3 runs aganist each other with me driving the E63 on 2 runs and the SLK55 on 1 run. Each time the SLK55 smoked the E63. It totally ran away from it. No Kidding. The strech of road we ran on was probably greater than a 1/4 mile and our speeds approached 135 MPH. The SLK launched much better than the E63 and gained momentum up until we broke around 135 MPH. The SLK55 is completely stock. Now I'm really stuck as I don't think the E63 is woth trading the SLK55 for. What do I do now? How is it possible for a car with 355 HP to absolutly ran away from a car with 507 HP? It makes no sense what-so-ever.

It's called a weight factor! About 800lbs lighter. Also remember that the SLK55 is a 0-60 in 4.2-4.5 car and if you slip up in a E55 or a E63 you will get beat in a street race.

20+ to list......
Is the E63 broken in? I'm guessing after everything is broken in in the 63, it will probably be neck to neck, but still, the SLK55 is a piece of masterpiece.

E63 V Slk55
The E63 had about 20 miles on it. It felt like a seriously fast machine and I was really suprised at how uneven the race was. Traction control was left on the entire time. If anything the SLK55 seemed to have more wheel spin. The driver was not a factor as we had the same result with both drivers.

AMG
my guess would be that 6.3 engine needs to have at least 3-4 k to run properly just like m5s engine, the more milage it has the better it runs, dont forget how sofisticated it is with all the coted parts ETC.

2004 E55 AMG
Should organise a MBworld/E55 Subforum: "Stalk that 63" day..
Innocent looking guy pulls the E63 out of dealership driveway... ready... all is quiet.. then.. sound of 50 or so E55's starting up around the corner, every driver hiden behind a pair of topgun sunglasses.. the fun begins
then we can make it a permanent event for every new AMG release.. call it the Jakpro:Event

Wouldn't you guys think an E63 would destroy it at higher speeds? If an SLK55 stock can beat the E63 pretty easily, then if I hit the juice I got a good chance at beating one.

then.. sound of 50 or so E55's starting up around the corner,
Then it just spins out of control. 100 screaming E55's surround the dealership with torches. "Bring us the E63!!!" crowd, "YEEAAHHHHHHH"
Salesmen begin pouring the boiling motor oil from the roof in huge cauldrons.

Man that was good!! I've had that image in my head all morning.

I think we should stop bashing our AMG brothers... After all, we're all in the same AMG family.

Doesn't mean we can't bash Mercedes and AMG for bringing this thing out in this state. I'm very disappointed by the way the 63 turned out so far, tarnishes the reputation of all AMG cars.

Better than the 55k?-well that depends on individual opinion, but it is the highest specific output NA mass production engine AMG have ever released. 510bhp and 465tq will leave behind almost anything on the road, and for those not into modding, should provide thousands of miles of trouble-free high-performance motoring. And boy does it sound nasty.
BTW, i'm totally not trying to start an argument. The E55 is an awesome car but i'm sure many will love the 63 too.

The E63 has a much higher power/weight ratio than the SLK55 and while i'm sure the account is true, I wouldn't expect the same outcome anytime soon.

From what Derek has posted, this thread vs an SLK55, and the little race I was in the 63 motor is not a powerhouse, but a lesser engine. AMG is known for powerful engines, but so far this appears to be a step backwards.

I suppose time will tell when more owners get their cars down the strip and on the road.
I certainly hope the engine works out as a family member is in negotiations over trading their C32 for an E63. Fingers crossed.

This would be the first time in AMG history where they came out with a revised car that was slower than the previous model.
My opinion, I think the E63 needs 3k+ miles on it to run at optimal levels.

Yeah in reading this thread and other one I think the same thing. This is AMG's first high reving, naturally aspirated V8 or engine period so it might need a few miles on the clock before full potential is acheived.

what does an slk55 do the 1/4 in?
thats nuts. merc quote slk55 0-62 in 4.9 and the 63 in 4.5.
going off those figures youd think 0-62 would be fairly neck and neck, then expect the 63 to walk away!

GM also used to quote 0-60 in less than 4 seconds for the C5 Z06, did that ever happen? No, not even close.
