Angry My E63 Dyno experience...

I dynoed my E63 today and got similar disappointing numbers as what Derek found.

Using fourth gear, we made two pulls...resulting in the following SAE corrected numbers:

385.78 HP / 332.50Torque
383.42 HP / 342.33 Torque

Using Fifth gear, we made two pulls...resulting in the following SAE corrected numbers:

372.90 HP / 354.88 T
366.52 HP / 346.99 T

...I think I'm going to be sick...

I'll be honest, I like the car...but it is not making the power as advertised. I want some ****ing answers.

The low #'s HAVE to be because of the torque limiters that are being loaded into the ECUs.. Alot of car manufacturers are doing this.. BMW, MB.. Not sure if Porsche does.

It's certainly a problem these days. Before the 63 owners go and attack MB they ought to let kleemann, renntech, et al to give the ECUs a crack. If they turn out unbelieveable increases for naturally aspirated engines, then we know that MB is holding back. Which is frustrating, but maybe the 63s really do have the potential we thought they did all along..?

GB, thanks for getting another one dyno'd. Nice car, there was a black GT at the dyno when I was there. What did you do to measure the torque?

I was afraid of these results. That is rediculous that MB would do that to their customers. I'm really wondering if they are playing games with the software again...

wow... you made a little more power than Derek's, but it's all within dyno variances... can you post a scan of the dyno graph?

You cant sue them for this. They only advertise flywheel HP and TQ, not at the wheels. They can do whatever they want inbetween with the tranny etc and get whatever number they like. Someone would have to get a dyno done at the flywheel to see if the engine is really outputting what it's supposed to, then sue if it isn't what they claim.

Anyone with an e63 in south Florida want a free dyno so that i can data-log some runs and get to the bottom of this load limit thing. I will gladly arrange all this if someone is interested.

wow... could the new tranny really take out that much power? ~29%... I think all new cars coming to the US have to have rated power verified by the new SAE testing standards......

i feel for you... i would be pissed too. someone needs to escalate this to amg/mb to see what the heck is going on. i can't believe the tranny can take away that much hp. aren't these trannys used in the slk55's? they don't seem to exhibit that much of a loss.

the other thing still might be a load limit. curious how many mile you have on your car.

I know it's insane, but several people have asked MB about any kind of load limiting in the ECU and I've talked to my dealership as well and they're all saying they aren't aware of any such thing. MB/AMG could clear it up with a few words if it turns out there is one, but so far silence. You'd think they'd tell this kind of thing up front to avoid just this problem from occuring. Did they not think anyone would take their car to the strip or slap it on a dyno?

We as a group should bring this to MB attention.People who buys AMG cars, buys them for performance.
If the rated horsepower is 500hp to the crank, then with 20% parasatic loss, the car should not dynoed less than 400rwhp.This means that the E63,15 not making anything close to 500hp at the crank as they stated........this is why the E55 it beating them....they need to slap a s/c on and call it a day.

To answer a couple of issues...

I am well aware of the difference between Flywheel and rear wheel horsepower and that MB does not advertise RWHP...neither do any other manufacturer.

You can sue MB for fraud based on the power claims they use in advertising and it is the reason I bought the car, and the primary selling point to AMG buyers. Based on RWHP numbers, it is reasonable to assume there are issues and it would then be up to MB to prove the car makes the claimed power.
The car, regardless of the reason, does NOT make 507 flywheel horsepower.

PERIOD.

Ford, and I believe Mazda, ate it for over rating horsepower.

What kind of piece of **** drivetrain has a nearly 30% lose of power to the ground? Give me a break.

My '03 E55 with only 700 miles on it made 416 RWHP and supposedly only made 469 flywheel hp...

As for the RWTQ rating...I'll get an clear explanation from him or have him post on this thread on how it was measured.

I will scan the sheets later this evening. The weird thing was this...in 5th gear, when we hit the top speed limiter, the car was still increasing in power production. It would have made more power if not for the shutoff...but that makes no sense to me.

i'm sorry but who cares if kleeman, renntech, etc can mess w/ ecu to get more horsepower. isn't the E63 suppose to have 507 bhp out of the box?

Maybe the same person who made Derek's engine also made yours and AMG outsourced engine production to India and someone mistranslated the instructions to say the engine should only have 7 cylinders and therefore you're missing one.

Off-topic but have you dynoed your GT?

My 05 (white with blue stripes) made 532 at the rear wheels and 562 with a superchips tune So the GT is definitely making the advertised 550hp at the flywheel.
