Advertised HP & TQ
All,
First real post here, so let me introduce myself a bit.
I'm planning on doing a European Delivery combined with a 2-3 week vacation next summer, so I've started lurking around here about a week ago soaking in all of the E63 controversy. I'm not dragster type - never will run at a strip, but I may pay for a few laps on a road course from time to time. I am curious about the comparisons between the E55 & E63. Unfortunately, I have nothing to offer about the E63's poor dyno results, especially since the 7spd is supposed to have fewer parasitic losses. I pieced together some potentially interesting plots based upon Mercede's advertised performance charts. I really am surprised by the 550's low end HP (I re-checked those numbers several times). Does the E63 have an 8000rpm redline?
Dave
My source data is from the MB 2007CLS, & 2006AMG brouchures.

The chart on the hp of the E55 is way off. HP = torque * RPM /5252. If the E55 has higher low end torque, it will also have higher lower end hp too. The E550's hp should closely resemble the low end hp of the E63 until the rpm's start rising and the hp of the E550 will taper off while the E63's will rise greater with rpm.

I took the equation and threw it Excel and the E55 & SLK55 curves are correct. I got that data from the 2006 AMG Brouchure. The other curves were extracted from the 2007 CLS Brouchure. Assuming the torque curve is correct, the E63 loses about 40hp at the lower rpms vs what is plotted, thus putting it smack in the middle of the E55 & SLK55 hp curves at low rpms. The E550 is just way-off, as I suspected. So much for advertising.
