Black Grill for w211

I am considering replacing my chrome grill. I can either go with a high gloss black finish or color match my Black Opal. Any thoughts? Yea or Nay

I found this one on ebay for $130. EBAY BLACK W211 Grill

Has anyone purchased from this seller?

Thanks.

Try PM'ing FrankW directly to see how the quality is and so forth. He is on the C32, C55 forums...

Get one that matches your Opal black. If its a little bit off then it will look like you tried to make it match and failed. Either make it obviously different or exactly the same.

Please post feedback on the quality, etc. The inner (plastic) piece with the slats is already black on the E55, so i wonder if they aren't just getting an OEM W211 one (which is silver) and painting it all. If so, How does the detailed finish look? Did they separate the two pieces and paint or just spray as is? Lastly, how well does it hold up to chips. If any of thos answers is not good, I'd do my own like mine. It is almost perfect, except that it needs a new coat every six months or so from chips. I always separate the pieces and keep the slats the same as always.

It will definitely look great on white. I painted mine myself. The grill can be taken apart and just have the chrome sanded and re-sprayed your factory color.

You sanded and painted? WOW, I remember all the time and effort but sanding all that chrome off is a pain in the ars

No... You don't have to sand all the chrome off. You only need to scuff it so the paint has something to stick to.

20+ to list......
If you are worried about color matching, send the grill to dealership and have them paint match it.

Yes. I got one about 2 weeks ago. For the price, couldn't go wrong. No problems from seller. Matte black finish, came in box with German words printed on it but also had what appeared to be Chinese handwriting with a Sharpie on the box as well. It is not an OEM grille painted black, it is an aftermarket grille but fit and finish were of excellent quality. It appears they actually paint the slats and the grille seperately and then put it together.

Black Grill.

Your black grill is so fresh, I have been literally looking for a grill like that for a year and a half. Do you have the sellers name? I would like to see if I can get one too! Thanks

Nothing like resurrecting a two year old thread.

But, yeah, black grilles look great:
